A Associação de Professores do Rio Grande do Norte e as ideias pedagógicas difundidas no Grupo Escolar Antônio de Souza (1920-1930)

With this work we seek to know the pedagogical ideas defended by the Association of Teachers of Rio Grande do Norte (APRN) and disseminated in the Antônio de Souza School Group, between 1920 and 1930, the initial date of creation of APRN and the end of the First Republic. The reopening of the Escola Normal de Natal in the early years of the 20th century made it possible to increase the number of teachers trained in the field, contributing to the need to establish a teaching association in order to defend the interests of the category and collaborate with the government to combat illiteracy. The creation of the Pedagogium magazine to instruct associate teachers and the installation of the Antônio de Souza School Group to teach the Christmas population in the Tirol neighborhood, literacy, contributed to the dissemination of the pedagogical ideas of APRN leaders and members. We use documentary and bibliographic research, and theoretical support from the perspective of Cultural History that allows reflection on historical events and certain constructed social realities (CHARTIER, 1990). The sources of the magazine Pedagogium (1921-1927), Acts and Resolutions of the Public Instruction of Rio Grande do Norte, Internal Regulation of the School Groups (1914 and 1925), Enrollment Books of the State Subsidized Schools (1924-1925) and Anais das Brazilian Education Weeks (1929- 1930) were located in public physical collections such as the Public Archive of the State (APE), the Union of Workers in Public Education of RN (SINTERN), the Library of the Center for Applied Social Sciences (BCCSA), in private collections and in digital collections such as the History and Memory of Education Laboratory (LAHMED). When analyzing the sources, we dialogued with Chartier (1990), who allowed us to understand some representations of the institutions studied; Certeau (1990), everyday practices in shared spaces; Elias (2001), with regard to the social configurations of a certain group; Saviani (2008), to understand what pedagogical ideas are and Julia (2001) to understand school culture. We believe that the shared functioning of physical space between the Antônio de Souza School Group and the Teachers' Association (APRN) allowed the dissemination of modern educational ideas from the first Brazilian republican moment and the applicability of pedagogical practices, among these institutions, in a relationship of reciprocal interdependence.
