Resumo: A manifestation rooted in the black African population, capoeira goes beyond the realm of culture and inhabits education through the actions of masters, researchers and teachers as part of school Physical Education, supported by laws and curricular documents in the area. However, the problematization and teaching of this manifestation or others belonging to African and Afro-Brazilian cultures are still absent in some educational institutions. Based on this scenario, this qualitative study, using a variety of instruments (drawings, writings, panels and presentations), aims to understand the students' conceptions of capoeira and the relationships with the knowledge established with it, with school Physical Education and with the students. Analysis of the results allowed us to see the urgency of continuing to teach the subject at school in order to foster the presence of Africanness and the ethnic-racial issues involved, since the concerns involving the process of self-recognition and the history of struggle involving capoeira proved to be powerful means of discussion and mobilization of student knowledge, fostering the construction of decolonized Physical Education curricula where themes and practices belonging to the culture of black peoples are present and effective. Student Knowledge.Manifestação enraizada com a população negra africana, a capoeira adentra para além do âmbito da cultura e habita a educação através da ação de mestres(as), pesquisadores(as) e professores(as) como parte da Educação Física escolar, sendo amparada por leis e documentos curriculares da área. Contudo, a problematização e o ensino dessa manifestação ou de outras pertencentes às culturas africana e afro-brasileira ainda são objetos ausentes em algumas instituições de ensino. A partir desse cenário, o estudo de natureza qualitativa, por intermédio de uma diversidade instrumental (produção de desenhos, escritas, painéis e apresentações), objetiva a compreensão das concepções discentes adotadas sobre a capoeira e as relações com os saberes estabelecidas com ela, com a Educação Física escolar e com os(as) estudantes. A análise dos resultados permitiu-nos perceber a urgência em continuar o ensino do tema na escola de modo a fomentar a presença das africanidades e das questões étnico raciais envolvidas, uma vez que as inquietudes envolvendo o processo de autorreconhecimento e o histórico de luta envolvendo a capoeira demonstraram-se potentes meios de discussão e de mobilização dos saberes discentes, propiciando a construção de currículos da Educação Física descolonizados onde os temas e práticas pertencentes à cultura dos povos negros tenham presença e efetivação.
