In accordance with the Open Access Movement to information, and witha view to preserving the institution's technical-scientific production with greater visibility to authors and giving the institution it self, in 2010 the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte was established. However, the number of articles published in journals available in the collections of the Institutional Repositoryof the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte is relatively lowif we compare with the production of articles by professors and researchers at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte computed by the Scylax platform, created by Instituto Metrópole Digital, also from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, which automatically collects the quantity of scientific production in the Lattes, Sucupira,Scopus and Orcid databases. Faced with this situation, the following question guides the research: how to improve the population of the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte from the interoperability with Scylax?The objective of the research is to propose a new way of populating scientific articles for the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, using the metadata collected by Scylax. Intended interoperability has three dimensions: organizational, semantic, and technical. In this sense, with regard to methodology, this is a research based on the action-research method. As part of the steps of the method, semi-structured interviews were carried out with the managers of the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and Scylax,and meetings with the technical teams of the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte to discuss the proposal of interoperability and design the population flow of scientific articles in the Institutional Repositoryof theFederal University of Rio Grande do Norte. As a result, the finding of organizational, semantic, and technical interoperability between Scylax and the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte stands out. With the flow proposal, the repository population is optimized by semi-automatically collecting the metadata of scientific articles published by a researcher at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, previously acquired by Scylax. After this metadata collection, the Digital Repositories Sector is responsible for checking the metadata and access licenses to the full text, searching for the PDF files, and making them available in the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. From this flow based on interoperability with Scylax, it will be possible to more efficiently increase the volume of articles deposited in the Institutional Repository of theFederal University of Rio Grande do Norte.
