This study aims to investigate the North Rio Grande historical production in the early twentieth century from the publications of the Journal of Historical and Geographical Institute of Rio Grande do Norte. For this, we review four volumes of IHGRN (Instituto Histórico e Geográfico do Rio grande do Norte) Journal circulating in Rio Grande do Norte society, and with similar institutions, from the year 1903. The investigation starts from the principle that the production linked to the institute is considered to be the first moment of development of a writing of the history of the state in an effective and systematic way, that is, it marks the first phase of historiography in Rio Grande do Norte. In this sense, this study seeks to review the production of this journal to understand the perspective of the construction of an intellectual field that conceives it and what dynamics were used for the realization of the history and space of the Rio Grande do Norte through writing. The circulation of IHGRN Journal can be considered a strategy development project of a history to the state where the IHGRN became the official institution able to produce and legitimize the historical and geographical narrative of Rio Grande do Norte, representing the group of members and the interests they sought, in this way, the periodical began to reach part of society and propose a dialogue with peers, consequently legitimizing the IHGRN as a place of production of the writing of the history of Rio Grande do Norte. The idea is to just find what was the journal's contribution IHGRN in the production of state of the space, and thus check how the joint was held between the fields of history and geography in the process along the joint between the IHGRN and IHGB (Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro).
