This dissertation, restricted to the theme of youth and political engagement, aims at identifying and analyzing the process of involvement and mobilization of young people engaged in the election for mayor of Rio de Janeiro in 2012. The campaign of the candidate Marcelo Freixo (PSOL - Socialism and Freedom Party), known as ?Carioca Spring?, had as one of its main features the role of the youth from various segments, including high school students, college students, artists and young people connected to ecological and cultural movements. The role and the involvement of young people during the months of the election campaign were against the theses - so present in common sense, but not only - which claim that youth has little interest in some political questions of our society and has not participated in institutional political processes. In this sense, the involvement of youth in the ?Carioca Spring? brings in new elements to be considered in analyzes that support a supposed "de-politicization" and discredit these individuals face concerning the forms of traditional institutions. The research was developed by adopting the perspective of qualitative research, divided into three stages; in the first phase a participative observation during and after the campaign was held in PSOL spaces and in social movements that the youth of the ?Carioca Spring? was engaged; in the second phase a ?netnography? in a group of Facebook social network was held, where young people shared testimonials and photos of the Rally held etc., known as Assembleia Sou Jovem e Fecho com Freixo. In the third phase of the research, individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven young people who participated in the campaign. Thus, this dissertation is aimed at analyzing the motivation to engage, the emotions and difficulties involved in the electoral process and the trajectories that were consolidated after the elections, as well as the engagement of the relationship with other aspects of life, such as school, university, family and friends as a way of investigating the construction, by these youngsters, of new meanings, repertoires and political engagement practices.
