Resumo: The present work objectives to evaluate the potential of the use of bark of Pinus caribaea var. caribaea in agglomerated panels as a formaldehyde scavenger, bringing the possibility of its use in the manufacture of agglomerated panels with low formaldehyde emission. Therefore, the chemical and physical characteristics of the pinus bark were analyzed to better evaluate their use in the panels, and the properties of the urea-formaldehyde resin were also analyzed. The experimental design for the panels consisted of two phases. The first stage was carried out under the pressing temperature of 140?C and the second phase at 160?C, both having a pressing time of 7 minutes, as well as five proportions of the bark particles (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20%) in association with wood particles with 10% urea-formaldehyde based adhesive. Subsequently, the formaldehyde emission, the physical and mechanical properties of the panels were tested and analyzed, in order to reach a balance where the quality of the panels was maintained and the emission of formaldehyde reduced. Thus, for the physical tests of the panels, it was observed that the different pressing temperatures and the addition of the bark particle, only affected in a significant way in the content moisture and swelling in thickness 2 and 24 hours, but in a positive way, being observed Best results at 160?C and addition of up to 15% bark. Regarding the mechanical tests, it was observed that the different pressing temperatures and the addition of the bark particle influenced all the tests, and the best results were also found at the temperature of 160?C and up to 15% of bark. In the chemical tests for analysis of formaldehyde emission, there was a reduction in the concentration of formaldehyde content between treatments with 5% to 20% of bark. Thus, the best result obtained, where all requirements were met, was the panel with the proportion of 15% particle bark.

Submitted by Jorge Silva (jorgelmsilva@ufrrj.br) on 2021-04-14T17:26:01Z No. of bitstreams: 1 2017 - Maria Vanessa Egger Schueler.pdf: 1580766 bytes, checksum: 55efd22afe88c17881243e30566414b6 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2021-04-14T17:26:01Z (GMT).
