Resumo: The specie Eugenia speciosa Camb., belongs to genus Eugenia, Myrtaceae family, is popularly known as "laranjinha do mato" or "ara?azeiro". The essential oil from its leaves, obtained by hydrodistillation, was analysed by HRGC and HRGC-MS and revealed a predominance monoterpenoid compounds in its chemical composition. Twenty eight compounds were identified (96% of our relative chemical composition) by comparison of their mass spectra with the ones in the literature and Wiley and NIST mass spectra library and by their Retention Indexes in a Iow-polarity fused silica capillary column, 5% diphenyl and 95%dimethylpolisiloxane stationary phase (SE-54). The monoterpenes limonene (33.7%), a-terpineol (18.9%), a-pinene (5.8%), terpinen-4-ol (5.0%) and terpinolene (4.5%) are the majors ones. The retention indexes calculated for any substances in polar column, 100% poliethyleneglicol stationary phase were not conclusive because there is a great difference among the values of these indexes for a same substance in the literature. This discrepancy can be explained by the use of different equations to calculate these retention indexes, by the type of stationary phase of fabricate different and by temperature programming. Mass fragmentation proposals for the principais ?ons and biosynthetic routes are suggested to the identified compounds in this work.

Foram identificados 28 componentes (96% da constitui??o qu?mica relativa do ?leo essencial) por compara??o de seus espectros de massas com os da literatura e com as bibliotecas de espectros de massas Willey e NIST e por seus ?ndices de reten??o calculados numa coluna capilar de s?lica fundida com baixa polaridade e fase estacion?ria 5% difenil e 95% dimetilpolisiloxano (SE-54). Os componentes majorit?rios do ?leo essencial foram os monoterpenos: limoneno (33.7%), a-terpineol (18.9%), a-pineno (5.8%), terpin-4-ol (5.0%) e terpinoleno (4.5%). Os ?ndices de reten??o calculados para determinadas subst?ncias usando-se coluna polar de fase estacion?ria 100% polietilenoglicol n?o foram conclusivos, pois existe grande diferen?a dos valores destes ?ndices descritos na literatura. Esta discord?ncia pode ser atribu?da ao uso de diferentes equa??es para o c?lculo dos ?ndices de reten??o, pelo tipo de fase estacion?ria de fabricantes diferentes e tamb?m pela programa??o de temperatura utilizada.
