Resumo: Due to the emergence of new migratory flows, migrations have been widely debated both in academic discourse and in international political arenas on human rights. Consequently, this debate gains relevance, attention, and space in media coverage. Thus, discussions about crossing international borders, forced migration, from the arrival of the migrant to the process of his/hers reception and integration into Brazilian society, have been articulated within the scope of journalistic coverage on migrations over the decade. Similarly, the international debate is influenced by the emergence of new frameworks and commitments related to the rights of refugees and migrants. This is materialized in the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants (2016), the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (2018), and the Global Compact on Refugees (2018). These documents set this new context by bringing to the forefront the need for adopting new strategies for international cooperation on migration and asylum, aiming to find alternatives to deal with migration and asylum phenomena, creating conditions for refugees and migrants tohave greater autonomy in their migratory processes. In light of this context, this research takes as its starting point the following question: is there a variation in the treatment given by the Brazilian media to Venezuelan migration after 2015? Why? Therefore, the main objective of this thesis is to understand how narratives about migrants are constructed and, especially, how media represents and construes discourses on the phenomenon of Venezuelan migration in Brazil within the scope of Brazilian media coverage on Instagram from 2015 to 2024. To achieve this, the study relies on the concept of Gramscian hegemony, Aníbal Quijano's perspective on the coloniality of power and knowledge, discourse theories, and debates on identity, with an emphasis on race and gender perspectives, in order to understand the representations produced by media on refugees and migrants.
