Resumo: This thesis aims to study the theoretical framework of Social Mathematics in Condorcet and how he transposed his method by means of analogies, for the study of the development of the history of societies, politics, economy, demography and education. With the Social Mathematics, Condorcet expresses that the objects of this science are "man", his operations of the spirit and the "things" that may be deductible to a common measure of the calculation of values. The empirical mathematical analysis of the number of instances and facts taken from the history offered Condorcet certainty that the most advanced Nations tended to be those that kept the scientific education. In this theoretical framework we place the following problem: to what extent, departing from the objects of Social Mathematics, Condorcet sought do analogies that pointed to the future conditions of society and, in this case, what would be the real role of public instruction for the maintenance of the continuous movement of the human spirit in history? From this questioning, the overall aim of the thesis is to show that the calculation of the objects of Social Mathematics allowed Condorcet predict what were the probable chances of the constant improvement of the human spirit, reason by which, by analogy, he then started to treat public instruction as social constant of the progress of the Lights. Being man and the actions of his spirit the objects of the Social Mathematics, the raison for the existence of the public instruction was to put in motion the formation of a new public spirit. With the compulsory public education, society would rely on a strong antidote to combat the enormous demographic and humanitarian damage caused by ignorance. The methodology used in the research was based on the reading and analysis of basic texts of Condorcet such as: General framework of science that has for object the implementation of political and moral sciences calculation, the Five memories about the public education and an outline of a historical picture on the progress of the human spirit, amongst others that have been written.

Elle porte sur la transposition de sa méthode au travers des analogies pour l’étude du développement de l’histoire des sociétés, de la politique, de l’économie, de la démographie et de l’éducation. Dans la Mathématique Sociale, Condorcet présente les objets de cette science parmi lesquels figurent : « l’homme » les opérations de son esprit et les « choses » réductibles à une mesure commune du calcul des valeurs. L’analyse empirique et mathématique du nombre d’occurrences et d’événements extraits de l’histoire a donné à Condorcet la certitude probabiliste du fait que les nations plus développées tendaient à être celles qui préservaient l’éducation scientifique. Dans ce cadre théorique émerge la problématique suivante : dans quelle mesure, à partir des objets de la Mathématique Sociale, Condorcet faisait des analogies qui révélaient l’avenir de la société et dans ce sens quel serait le vrai rôle de l’instruction publique pour la préservation du mouvement continu de l’esprit humain dans l’histoire ? À partir de ce questionnement, l’objectif général de cette thèse, serait celui de démontrer que le calcul des objets de la Mathématique Sociale permettait à Condorcet de prévoir quelles étaient les chances probables de perfectionner constamment l’esprit humain. En raison de cela, Condorcet a pu consolider, par analogie, l’instruction publique en tant que constante sociale du progrès des Lumières. Étant donné que l’homme et les actes de son esprit constituaient des objets de la Mathématique Sociale, la raison d’être de l’instruction publique était celle de mettre en marche la formation d’un nouvel esprit public. Dans le cadre de l’instruction publique obligatoire, la société compterait sur un fort antidote pour combattre les énormes préjudices démographiques et humanitaires issus de l’ignorance. La méthodologie de cette recherche se base sur la lecture et l’analyse de textes de base de Condorcet tels que: Tableau général de la science, qui a pour objet l'application du calcul aux sciences politiques et morales, Cinq mémoires sur l’instruction publique et l’Esquisse d'un tableau historique des progrès de l'esprit humain, entre autres écrits.A presente tese tem como objeto de estudo o quadro teórico da Matemática Social em Condorcet e como ele transpôs seu método, por meio de analogias, para o estudo do desenvolvimento da história das sociedades, da política, da economia, da demografia e da educação. Com a Matemática Social, Condorcet expõe que os objetos dessa ciência são “o homem”, as operações do seu espírito e as “coisas” que possam ser reduzíveis a uma medida comum do cálculo dos valores. A análise empírico-matemática do número de ocorrências e dos fatos extraídos da história ofereceu a Condorcet a certeza probabilística de que as nações mais avançadas foram aquelas que mantiveram a educação científica. Diante desse quadro teórico, colocamos o seguinte problema: em que medida, a partir dos objetos da Matemática Social, Condorcet buscava fazer analogias que apontassem as condições futuras da sociedade e, neste caso, qual seria o real papel da instrução pública para a manutenção do movimento contínuo do espírito humano na história? A partir desse questionamento, o objetivo geral desta tese é o de mostrar que o cálculo dos objetos da Matemática Social permitia a Condorcet prever quais eram as chances prováveis do constante aperfeiçoamento do espírito humano, motivo pelo qual, por analogia, ele passou a tratar a instrução pública como constante social do progresso das Luzes. Sendo o homem e as ações de seu espírito objetos da Matemática Social, a razão de ser da instrução pública era a de colocar em marcha a formação de um novo espírito público. Com a instrução pública obrigatória, a sociedade passaria a contar com um forte antídoto para combater os enormes prejuízos demográficos e humanitários causados pela ignorância.
