Resumo: This research aims to survey and examine the poems translated by Jamil Haddad that make up the work Les Orientales (1829), by Victor Hugo. The translated poems are found in Obras Completas de Victor Hugo, translated and compiled by Haddad, which have long not been reissued, dating to his last publication of 1960. However, Haddad translated 34 poems from Les Orientales, while the French work is composed of 41 poems. The Brazilian version of this book by Victor Hugo is therefore incomplete. Having this in view, to achieve the objective of this research, it is necessary to proceed to the comparative reading of the original and translated poems, in order to try to identify which choices and translation solutions Haddad chose for the work from the examination of his translations and, finally, check whether other translation solutions were possible. The research is exploratory and descriptive, since it makes use of a broad bibliographic survey and stands out for the documentary character. This research is based on considerations about the (re)translation and reception of poetry – specifically Hugoan poetry –, the Brazil-France relationship and orientalism, from the reflections of the following authors: Barreto (2012), Berman (2017), Callipo (2011), Degout (2002), Faleiros (2012; 2016), Laranjeira (1993), Legendre (2012), Moretto (2003), Perrone-Moisés (2013), Pym (2017), Queiroz (2022), Reis (2013; 2021), Rivas (1995), Said (2007), among others.
