Resumo: This dissertation presents an analysis of the skills needed to work as editors of scientific journals, particularly in handling the Open Journal System (OJS). The research identifies gaps in the training and support offered to these professionals, highlighting the need for a structured training course capable of developing editorial skills in this audience. In this environment, a SWOT analysis was carried out to diagnose the current situation of the skills of the editors of the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS) Journal Portal, revealing the absence of specific courses or tutorials to help current or new editors and their teams. Based on this analysis, a questionnaire with open and closed questions was structured to map the profile of the editors, their skills and the areas of knowledge in which they work. The data collected provides a better understanding of the context in which the editors work and the skills they already possess. The results of the survey show that the majority of editors do not have specific training in using the Open Journal Systems (OJS) software, which is a worrying gap considering the importance of this tool for journal management. The survey also reveals that communication, time management and analytical skills are essential competencies for editors, enabling them to deal with the multiple responsibilities that the role demands. This is why the “OJS in 4 steps” course was designed, structured in four modules that cover everything from OJS fundamentals and initial configurations to advanced editing and publishing practices. This modular structure allows participants to progress in an organized way, gradually building up their skills and knowledge. The Pedagogical Conceptual Modeling for the Development of Information Competence (MPDCoinfo) by Farias (2014) serves as the basis for designing the course. MPDCoinfo is adapted to the Brazilian reality, taking into account the particularities of the national academic environment. The research highlights the importance of continuous training and institutional support for editors, emphasizing the need for training that addresses the specificities of each area of knowledge. Finally, the “OJS in 4 Steps” course offers training, enabling editors and their teams to work efficiently in all stages of the editorial process. Building a collaborative and supportive environment between the UFS Journal Portal and editors is essential to strengthen editorial practices and promote scientific communication.

A pesquisa identifica lacunas na formação e no suporte oferecido a esses profissionais, evidenciando a necessidade de um curso de capacitação estruturado, capaz de desenvolver competências editoriais nesse público. Nessa ambiência, foi realizada uma análise SWOT para diagnosticar a situação atual das competências dos editores do Portal de Periódicos da Universidade Federal de Sergipe (UFS), revelando a ausência de cursos ou tutoriais específicos que auxiliem os editores atuais ou novos e suas equipes. A partir dessa análise, é estruturado um questionário com perguntas abertas e fechadas, visando mapear o perfil dos editores, suas competências e as áreas do conhecimento em que atuam. Os dados coletados permitem compreender melhor o contexto em que os editores estão inseridos e as habilidades que já possuem. Os resultados da pesquisa mostram que a maioria dos editores não possui formação específica para utilizar o software Open Journal Systems (OJS), o que representa uma lacuna preocupante, considerando a importância dessa ferramenta para a gestão dos periódicos. A pesquisa também revela que a comunicação, a gestão do tempo e a capacidade analítica são competências essenciais para os editores, permitindo que lidem com as múltiplas responsabilidades que a função exige. Sendo assim, foi elaborado o curso "OJS em 4 passos", estruturado em quatro módulos que abrangem desde os fundamentos e configurações iniciais do OJS até as práticas avançadas de editoração e publicação. Essa estrutura modular permite que os participantes avancem de maneira organizada, construindo gradualmente suas habilidades e conhecimentos. A modelagem conceitual pedagógica para o desenvolvimento d a Competência em Informação (MPDCoinfo) de Farias (2014) serve como base para a elaboração do curso. A MPDCoinfo é adaptada para a realidade brasileira, considerando as particularidades do meio acadêmico nacional.
