Resumo: The present work proposes to work with carnivalization going to the classroom so that aspects of Bakhtin's theory can be identified in texts of the cordel genre, highlighting the character Pedro. Thus, starting from the students' conception of the carnival party, seeking to associate similarities with the theory of carnivalization, whose primordial aspect is laughter and the inversion of roles that are present in this popular manifestation. Also noteworthy is the reading proposal that explores the aspects with the aforementioned genre, observing the humorous resources explored in this type of text in order to provoke reflection on language, criticality and playfulness. The research is based on studies on the process carnivalization proposed by Bakhtin (2010), as well as the 14 principles on Menippean satires that help to understand the functioning of the comic language of popular expression. Through carnivalization, we observe movements of social transgression experienced by the protagonist and highlight the construction of events from the people's focus. The carnivalization theory is perceived as an activity that represents the inversion of social roles, where the deceived is the boss or person who holds economic power. We selected narratives whose central character is the icon of Brazilian folklore Pedro Malasartes. The corpus of this research uses cordeis: As Palhaçadas de Pedro Malasartes by Francisco Sales Arêda (2004) and O Quengo by Pedro Malasartes no Fazendeiro, by João Damasceno Nobre (1959). It is observed that the character Pedro Malasartes is a representative of the rural worker who is often exploited and the only way to get rid of hunger is to perform tricks and cunning acts. In this way, we observe how Pedro Malasartes' narratives explore the play on words, ambiguity, rhymes with double meanings to tell the sagas of deception. The research follows the steps of didactic engineering that seeks to investigate theoretical-methodological principles for teaching mother tongue in the classroom with text genres. Based on Dolz (2018). The aim is to organize a reading book aimed at elementary school students, based on the principles of didactic engineering defended by Dolz (2006), Ribeiro (2018). From this perspective, we investigate didactic procedures aimed at understanding texts that explore elements of popular culture. Therefore, we developed a study on the cordel genre, analyzing the themes, its compositional forms endowed with sextiles and rhymes.
