Resumo: Solid waste management is a major problem in most developing countries, as MSW generation is gradual and is associated with intense industrial activity and population growth. The decomposition of organic matter promotes the release of biogas, whose main constituents are carbon dioxide and methane, is a greenhouse gas whose emission causes global warming, besides generating unpleasant odors and offering risks to the population. Thus, the generation of energy from municipal solid waste has been presented as a possible alternative, with a view to sustainable development. In this context, this paper aims to evaluate the technical and economic aspects of power generation from urban solid waste, through a comparative study between power generation in landfills using biogas and its burning in incineration plants. To this end, a case study was conducted considering the municipality of Ijuí, located in the northwest of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, with a population of 87 thousand inhabitants, subsequently using the methodology proposed by the National Center for Biomass Reference and by Polleto to determine the power and energy to be generated through biogas and incineration respectively and thereafter perform the economic analysis using the Abrelpe, CAPEX and OPEX parameters for the biogas energy utilization while the incineration analysis was performed. based on the study by Stubenvoll. The results showed that from an energy point of view, the incineration plant starts generating substantial energy as early as the first year, but that economically generating energy through biogas is more viable due to the low investment and operating costs. Thus, through the results obtained it can be noted that the generation and use of electricity from local sources can contribute to strategic actions in the municipalities.

A decomposição da matéria orgânica promove a liberação do biogás, cujos principais constituintes são o gás carbônico e o metano, é um gás de efeito estufa, cuja emissão contribuí para o aquecimento global, além disso gera odores desagradáveis e oferece riscos a população. Dessa forma, a geração de energia a partir de resíduos sólidos urbanos vem apresentando-se como uma alternativa possível, com vistas ao desenvolvimento sustentável. Neste contexto, este trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar os aspectos técnicos e econômicos da geração de energia a partir dos resíduos sólidos urbanos, através de um estudo comparativo entre a geração de energia em aterros sanitários com aproveitamento do biogás e sua queima em usinas de incineração. Para tal, foi realizado um estudo de caso considerando o município de Ijuí, localizado no noroeste do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, com uma população de 87 mil habitantes. Posteriormente utilizou-se a metodologia proposta pela Centro Nacional de Referência em Biomassa e por Polleto para determinar a potência e a energia a ser gerada através do biogás e da incineração respectivamente e partir de então realizar a análise econômica utilizando os parâmetros segundo a Abrelpe, de CAPEX e OPEX para o aproveitamento energético do biogás enquanto que a análise da incineração foi baseada no estudo realizado por Stubenvoll. Os resultados demonstraram que do ponto de vista energético, a usina de incineração começa gerando energia substancial já no primeiro ano, mas que, economicamente gerar energia através do biogás é mais viável devido aos baixos custos de investimento e operação. Desta forma, através dos resultados obtidos pode se notar que a geração e uso da energia elétrica a partir de fontes locais podem contribuir para ações estratégicas nos municípios.porUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de TecnologiaPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia ElétricaUFSMBrasilEngenharia ElétricaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessResíduo sólido urbanoBiogásIncineraçãoRecuperação energéticaViabilidade econômicaUrban solid wasteBiogasIncinerationEnergy recoveryEconomic viabilityCNPQ::ENGENHARIAS::ENGENHARIA ELETRICAAvaliação de alternativas para geração de energia elétrica a partir de resíduos sólidos urbanosEvaluation of alternatives for partial electricity generation from urban solid wasteinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisCanha, Luciane Neveshttp://lattes.cnpq.br/6991878627141193Abaide, Alzenira da RosaCampos, Maurício dehttp://lattes.cnpq.br/8076585579284123Gehm, Sandi da Costa300400000007600600600ab53fdc5-93b0-417d-b96d-9442b235a1ffdc777935-8cf7-420c-92a4-066e88906b4d3e00029a-ff6e-4e78-9f59-e957ef99c554a1c1d69b-261f-4a01-9b79-22850fa56adereponame:Manancial - Repositório Digital da UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMORIGINALDIS_PPGEE_20219_GEHM_SANDI.pdfDIS_PPGEE_20219_GEHM_SANDI.pdfDissertação de Mestradoapplication/pdf2808685http://repositorio.ufsm.br/bitstream/1/23405/1/DIS_PPGEE_20219_GEHM_SANDI.pdfb0f58aea27cdad6dbcbbb189c4a0a0eeMD51CC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
