Resumo: A pyrohydrolysis system was developed for sample preparation for halogen determination in hydraulic cardboard. These materials are used for sealings, mainly engines and nuclear reactors. Because of the contact of the sealing material with the cooling liquid of these engines leaching of halogens may occur forming their respective acids which cause corrosion of the equipment and release these compounds to the environment. In relation to previous systems cited in the literature, changes of the sample introduction systems, quartz reactor tube and the condenser of water vapor have been made. Sample boat is introduced in the system through a stainless steel tube and quartz reactor is integrated with the water vapor generator. Water vapor is condensed through two glass serpentines, one being refrigerated by Peltier effect. Parameters of the system were evaluated, being the samples heated during 7 min at temperatures of 1000 °C with a gas flow rate (O2) of 0.2 mL min-1, water flow rate of 1 mL min-1, 300 mg of sample mass and no absorption solution was used. Oxygen was used as carrier gas to assist the sample combustion. The results were compared with the ones obtained by microwave-induced combustion (MIC) and fusion. The pyrohydrolysis results are comparable (at a confidence level of 95%, t-test) with those obtained by MIC, used as reference method for sample preparation. The precision of the results was good (RSD < 10%). In this way, the pyrohydrolysis system developed can be used to hydraulic cardboard sample preparation for halogens analysis.

Esses materiais são geralmente utilizados para vedações, principalmente de motores e de reatores nucleares. Em virtude do contato do material de vedação com o líquido de arrefecimento desses motores pode ocorrer a lixiviação dos halogênios, formando seus respectivos ácidos o que causa a corrosão dos equipamentos, além de liberar esses compostos ao meio ambiente. Em relação aos sistemas já descritos na literatura, modificações foram feitas no sistema de introdução da amostra, no reator de quartzo e no condensador de vapor d’água. A barqueta contendo a amostra é introduzida através de um dispositivo de aço inox e o reator de quartzo é integrado com o sistema de geração de vapor d’água. A condensação de vapor é feita por duas serpentinas de vidro, sendo uma refrigerada por efeito Peltier. Os parâmetros inerentes ao sistema foram avaliados, sendo a temperatura do forno de 1000 °C, a vazão do gás (O2) de 0,2 L min-1, vazão da água de 1 mL min-1, tempo de piroidrólise de 7 min, massa de amostra de 300 mg e sem a utilização de solução absorvedora. Os resultados foram comparados com os obtidos a partir do preparo da amostra utilizando os métodos de combustão iniciada por micro-ondas (MIC) e fusão. Os resultados obtidos por piroidrólise são semelhantes (teste t nível de confiança 95%) aos obtidos por MIC, utilizado como método de referência (para o preparo da amostra), mas não foram semelhantes aos obtidos por fusão (teste t nível de confiança 95%). A precisão dos resultados é boa (RSD < 10%). O sistema desenvolvido forneceu mais agilidade e facilidade para realizar a piroidrólise e pode ser recomendado para o preparo de amostra de papelão hidráulico visando à determinação de halogênios.
