Resumo: | This research has as its theme the study of the consumption of long, medium and perishable goods in a frontier region in the 19th century. The objective was to investigate the characteristics of consumption on the southern border of the Empire of Brazil, focusing on the city of Alegrete in the second half of the century (1846-1891), as well as searching for clues about daily life and new conceptions of civilization and social life. The sources used were Postmortem Inventories of Alegrete (Public Archive of the State of Rio Grande do Sul), analyzed every 5 years within the historical period of the research, with serial history as the main methodological contribution. Reports of Travelers, Gazeta de Alegrete (Public Archive of the State of Rio Grande do Sul) and Code of Municipal Postures (Historical Archive of Rio Grande do Sul) are other sources that composed the investigation and had as methodological support a qualitative reading relating such sources with context and historiography. The results indicate that there was a trend of consumption related to goods of greater daily use, there were also some changes in the consumption of some typologies of these goods more at the end of the nineteenth century and even the cheapening of some of them and perhaps greater access. In turn, an analysis of the goods from socio-economic groups ended up demonstrating the existence of an average urban space for the region, even though it was totally connected to the rural universe, which was predominant in that context. It was also noticed that the wealthiest groups had the highest amounts of goods in all categories, but average groups ended up having more goods than other goods of production, which is accentuated in relation to the poorest indicating the stratification in the region. Still, it is possible to say that the durable and perishable goods indicated an interesting commercial movement and of consumption, with products of varied types. The municipality was still supported in diverse stores and commercial activities that brought to the region the innovations of the European Atlantic world and platino. And finally, it was noticed that new products were inserted in the daily life and ended up being part of the consumption of many people of the region, but we consider that despite the insertion of these new elements and even of conceptions of European "civility", there was not a cultural overlap but rather an interaction of these aspects, bringing together the already established daily practices with the innovations from beyond the sea. |

O objetivo foi averiguar as características do consumo na fronteira meridional do Império do Brasil, com foco no município de Alegrete, na segunda metade do século (1846-1891), além de buscar indícios sobre o cotidiano e as novas concepções de civilização e vida social. As fontes utilizadas foram Inventários post mortem de Alegrete (Arquivo Público do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul), analisados a cada 5 anos dentro do período histórico da pesquisa, tendo a História serial como principal aporte metodológico. Relatos de Viajantes, Jornal Gazeta de Alegrete (Arquivo Público do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul) e Código de Posturas Municipais (Arquivo Histórico do Rio Grande do Sul) são as demais fontes que compuseram a investigação e tiveram como suporte metodológico uma leitura qualitativa relacionando tais fontes com o contexto e a historiografia. Os resultados encontrados indicam que havia uma tendência de consumo relacionada aos bens de maior uso cotidiano, ocorreram também algumas modificações no consumo de algumas tipologias destes bens mais ao fim do século XIX e mesmo o barateamento de alguns deles e talvez, um maior acesso. Por sua vez, uma análise dos bens a partir de grupos sócio-econômicos acabou por demonstrar a existência de um espaço urbano médio para a região, mesmo que ele estivesse totalmente conectado ao universo rural, que era predominante naquele contexto. Percebeu-se, ainda, que os grupos mais abastados possuíam os maiores montantes de bens em todas as categorias, mas grupos médios acabaram por ter mais bens móveis do que outros bens de produção, o que se acentua em relação aos mais pobres indicando a estratificação social na região. Ainda, é possível dizer que os bens pouco duráveis e perecíveis indicaram uma interessante movimentação comercial e de consumo, com produtos de tipos variados. O município ainda estava amparado em diversas lojas e atividades comerciais que traziam para a região as novidades do mundo atlântico europeu e platino. E, por fim, notou-se que novos produtos eram inseridos no cotidiano e acabavam por fazer parte do consumo de muitas pessoas da região, mas consideramos que apesar da inserção destes novos elementos e mesmo de concepções de “civilidade” europeias, não houve uma sobreposição cultural e sim uma interação destes aspectos, congregando as práticas cotidianas já estabelecidas com as novidades de além mar.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESporUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Ciências Sociais e HumanasPrograma de Pós-Graduação em HistóriaUFSMBrasilHistóriaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessConsumoCotidianoFronteiraAlegreteSéculo XIXEverydayConsumptionBorderAlegreteXIX CenturyCNPQ::CIENCIAS HUMANAS::HISTORIAAs nuances da civilização: consumo e cotidiano na fronteira meridional do Brasil, Alegrete (1846 – 1891)The nuances of civilization: consumption and everyday life in southern border of Brazil, Alegrete (1846 - 1891)info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisFarinatti, Luís Augusto Eblinghttp://lattes.cnpq.br/1043707938149901Flores, Mariana Flores da Cunha Thompsonhttp://lattes.cnpq.br/0741500213422724Vargas, Jonas Moreirahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/6511913807881617http://lattes.cnpq.br/3483948792240931Tomazi, Taís Giacomini7005000000026008dffbd5e-3dfe-4a8b-aa00-8fb3d4191f8639fe9103-20c9-434c-ba96-210817515bef0bc19681-1bc1-4298-ab73-ea256495e1ada544a2dc-9b3f-4547-9b6a-365d0efdc3dbreponame:Manancial - Repositório Digital da UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMCC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
