Resumo: This Master's Thesis in Gerontology has as object of study the relationship between gender and aging through the realization that many women who are in the process of aging decided to break with the status quo attributed to their perspective of old age, breaking paradigms of how they should be and behave. The study sought to unravel how a group of women in their 40s or older, participants of a volleyball team, demonstrate their perception of various themes involving active aging, relating this knowledge to the theoretical framework on the subject, from a qualitative approach. It was concluded that the women participating in the research are giving themselves the right to have an active aging, participating in many socal activities, including the practice of volleyball sport, breaking prejudices and paradigms still resulting from the patriarchy, walking towards a life with more quality, becoming ageless within its potentialities and limits.

O estudo procurou desvendar como um grupo de mulheres na faixa etária dos quarenta anos ou mais, participantes de um time de voleibol, demonstram a sua percepção em relação a diversos temas que envolvem o envelhecimento ativo, relacionando estes conhecimentos com o referencial teórico sobre o tema, a partir de uma abordagem qualitativa.
