Resumo: | This study focused on the relationship between the media and the formation of the Otaku Group, term used in Brazil to describe fans of Japanese pop culture. Thus, in order to understand how the media operates in the formation of new sociability, especially the Otaku Group; the role it assumes the identity formations, understand the relationship between technological advances and globalization process in group formation and; establish a description of the otaku lifestyle. To this end, the methodological approach consists of triangulation three steps: literature search, research on media consumption and applied research with the Otaku Group. In this process, we performed a historical-media survey, correlating it with the forms of sociability and derived their involvement in identity formation. As for this employed the following research techniques: participant observation with the group under study, questionnaires, conducting focus groups and interviews. |

Deste modo, objetivando compreender como a mídia atua na formação de novas sociabilidades, em especial o Grupo Otaku; o papel que ela assume nas formações identitárias; entender a relação entre os avanços tecnológicos e o processo de globalização na formação do grupo; e estabelecer uma descrição do modo de vida Otaku. Para tal, o percurso metodológico consiste na triangulação de três etapas: Pesquisa bibliográfica, pesquisa sobre o consumo midiático e pesquisa aplicada junto ao Grupo Otaku. Neste processo, efetuou-se um levantamento histórico-midiático, correlacionando o mesmo com as formas de sociabilidade derivadas e sua implicação na formação identitária.
