Resumo: | The progress of Santa Maria had as one of its consequences the environmental degradation of urban streams. The importance of this study is given in the presentation of an alternative and new methods of work for the rehabilitation of rivers slopes of the city. It was chosen as a stretch of creek Cancela, located in the Park of CACISM (Câmara de Comércio Indústria e Serviços de Santa Maria) or Park of Tamanday, between the districts Nossa Senhora Medianeira and Nonoai, in order to reshape, stabilize and restore ecologically the place building a cribwall vegetated with Hedychium coronarium. It was aimed to analyze the development of the specie in the structure by counting the shoots and monitor the stability of the slope. To this end, the cribwall was divided into three portions: the portion "A" understood the section near the bridge, the portion "B" was located in the center portion of the cribwall, and "C" is further upstream. Each plot was subjected to three treatments, as follows: T1 - water line, T2 - middle of the cribwall and T3 loud of the slope. In 90 days of the experiment, the T1 (water line) obtained the best results, because at this point the Hedychium coronarium showed a higher number of shoots with an average of 3.65 shoots per linear meter. In assessing the biotechnical potential of Hedychium coronarium in the structure, it was shown that this herbal specie can be used by soil bioengineering, there is need to test other species together. With the action of public and private sector, residents and the community, were able to observe an innovative form of environmental remediation. This work enabled the development of new researches being undertaken by students of the Graduate Forestry at UFSM. |

A importância desse estudo se dá na apresentação de uma alternativa e de novos instrumentos de trabalho para a recuperação dos taludes fluviais da cidade. Elegeu-se um trecho do arroio Cancela, situado no Parque da CACISM (Câmara de Comércio Indústria e Serviços de Santa Maria) ou Parque da Tamanday, entre os bairros Nossa Senhora Medianeira e Nonoai, com o objetivo de remodelar, estabilizar e recuperar ecologicamente o local por meio da construção de uma parede Krainer vegetada com Hedychium coronarium J. Köning (cardamomo). Buscou-se analisar o desenvolvimento da espécie na estrutura com contagem das brotações e monitorar a estabilidade do talude. Para isso, a parede foi dividida em três parcelas: a parcela A compreendeu a seção próxima a ponte; a parcela B localizava-se no centro da parede e a parcela C , mais a montante. Cada parcela foi submetida a 3 tratamentos, sendo: T1 linha d água; T2 meio da parede e T3 no alto do talude. Aos 90 dias da instalação do experimento o tratamento T1 (linha d água) obteve os melhores resultados, pois nesse ponto o Hedychium coronarium mostrou um maior número de brotações, com uma média de 3,65 brotações por metro linear. Ao avaliar o potencial biotécnico do Hedychium coronarium na estrutura, comprovou-se que essa espécie herbácea pode ser utilizada pela engenharia natural, havendo a necessidade de testar outras espécies em conjunto. Com a atuação do poder público e da iniciativa privada, moradores e pessoas da comunidade puderam observar uma forma de recuperação ambiental inovadora.
