The specie Steinchisma decipiens (Nees ex Trin.) W.V.Br. are native grasses for areas of rice production in Brazil and have not been previously reported as weeds. In Rio Grande do Sul it has been found as a competing species in areas of agricultural crops, both in upland and poorly drained floodplain areas. Little is known about its behavior and, being an invasive plant, it is necessary to study the conditions that propitiate its acclimatization and naturalization in environments other than those where they are originally found vegetating. By field observations, it is assumed that S. decipiens has adaptability to the most varied ecosystems, without many climatic constraints for germination and propagation, as well as different concentrations of water in the soil. With this, studies in growth chamber (BOD) and in greenhouse to evaluate the germination and the growth and development of the species under different soil water conditions in the agricultural year of 2016/2017. The experiments were carried out at different temperatures in order to evaluate the optimum for seed germination. The responses to light and to different concentrations of water in the soil were also studied in order to determine the phenological optimum, being verified changes in morphological level, as well as phenotypic plasticity. Thus it is expected to determine important aspects of the biology of the species in different simulated environmental conditions.
