The creation of the PRONAF was a milestone in public policy for rural credit for the financing of family farming, and the reference point of family farming as a social and political actor in the scenario of rural development in Brazil. Recently it was created another long-term credit line to finance investments in the properties of small farmers, the PRONAF More Food, aiming the increasing agricultural productivity. This work aims at analyze the importance, the context and effects caused by the resources made available by PRONAF More Food on the farmers from the City of Teutônia/RS. To fulfill the objectives, the present study was performed by an exploratory survey, whose primary objective was to obtain an overview of the Program More Food. Thus, to develop the work, was carried out a survey of data (quantitative survey), through a questionnaire applied to 51 rural properties in the city of Teutônia. Was also conducted interviews with the technical intermediaries (Emater and Financial Institutions) and political (STR). The analyses of the collected data were done by quantitative methods, as the description of the sample through the distribution of frequencies, and qualitative, through interpretive analysis the speeches. Based on data and analysis, it is possible to verify that the family farmers have the possibility to use the financing of rural credit to enable the access to new technologies and improve production capabilities, modernize the infrastructure in order to increase the productivity and, thus, increasing competitiveness, enhancing the conditions for market access. The farmers rationality is connected with the reality in which they find themselves, in order to preserve the necessary conditions that guarantee the social and material reproduction of the family units of production. The resources offered by Pronaf More Food provided increased of the well-being of the families surveyed, and cause changes in the production systems, particularly by increasing labor productivity. Thus, it is suggested that the work helps to identify some relevant features of a recent credit policy, which still little known and explored.
