Resumo: We present the thesis that in a Football World Cup coverage, the journalistic instances manifest, sustain and promote editorial positions through the mobilization of a passionate scenario intrinsic to the competition and of discursive marks that enunciate investment aspects of subjectivity. In order to elaborate it, we assume that it is through passionate aspects that the discursivization of the events related to the 2014 Football World Cup is the modus operandi of the journalistic instances. In this context, we understand the passions as a basic component of discourses and revealing intentionalities. Therefore, we propose to respond that passionate aspects and that editorial positions are assumed and promoted throughout the event. The research mobilizes the notions of play, sport in its communication and semiotic bias and football as an articulated set of metaphors. As an empirical object of analysis, we have selected front-pages of Brazilian newspapers printed published during the period of the games and their coverage (June 12 to July 14, 2014). From a universe of 405 covers, 49 constitute the analytical corpus of the present thesis. In them, we try to recognize the characteristics of their experience as a communicational and semiotic device for the promotion of journalistic activity. In addition to the capacity for synthesis and hierarchy, the newspaper front-page presents itself from the constant passionalization of events, with the aim of touching or promoting affective ties with the reader. For the analysis, we resort to the theoretical-methodological contribution of greimasian discursive semiotics, using precepts related to the passions and the generative path of meaning. Exploring the discursive level, we deepen the analysis of the thematic-figurative investment present in the front-pages. The results point to the predominance of semantic traits related to passions of joy and passions of sadness in the configuration of the thematic paths. As suggested by the theoretical referential, metaphorical dimension, boastfulness, complex of mutts, Maracanazo and frustration appear as structuring elements of the discourses. We note that editorial positions are marked by the exploration of polarized discourses. Passes from the defense point of view to another without mediation and indiscriminately. While a discourse of union, patriotism and national pride is maintained at the beginning of the World Cup, journalistic instances are moved by a passionate discourse of anger, contempt and frustration at the end of the competition. We conclude with the analysis of the front-pages that the journalistic instances promote ambivalent and provincial positions.

Para construí-la, partimos do princípio de que é pela via de aspectos passionais que a discursivização dos acontecimentos relativos à Copa do Mundo de Futebol de 2014 configura o modus operandi das instâncias jornalísticas. Nesse contexto, entendemos as paixões como componente basilar de discursos e revelador de intencionalidades. Diante disso, propomos responder que aspectos passionais e que posicionamentos editoriais são assumidos e promovidos ao longo do referido evento. A investigação mobiliza as noções de jogo, esporte em seu viés comunicacional e semiótico e futebol como um conjunto articulado de metáforas. Como objeto empírico de análise escolhemos capas de jornais impressos brasileiros publicadas durante o período de realização dos jogos e respectiva cobertura (12 de junho à 14 de julho de 2014). De um universo de 405 capas, 49 constituem o corpus analítico da presente tese. Nelas, procuramos reconhecer as características de sua experiência como dispositivo comunicacional e semiótico de promocionalidade da atividade jornalística. Além da capacidade de síntese e hierarquização, a capa de jornal se apresenta a partir da passionalização constante dos acontecimentos, com objetivo de tocar ou promover vínculos afetivos com o leitor. Para as análises, recorremos ao aporte teórico-metodológico da semiótica discursiva greimasiana, utilizando-se de preceitos relativos às paixões e ao percurso gerativo de sentido. Explorando o nível discursivo, aprofundamos a análise do investimento temático-figurativo presente nas capas. Os resultados apontam para o predomínio de traços semânticos relacionados a paixões de alegria e paixões de tristeza na configuração dos percursos temáticos. Conforme sugerido pelo referencial teórico, dimensão metafórica, ufanismo, complexo de vira-latas, Maracanazo e frustração aparecem como elementos estruturantes dos discursos. Observamos que os posicionamentos editoriais são marcados pela exploração de discursos polarizados. Passa-se da defesa de um ponto de vista a outro sem mediação e de modo indiscriminado. Ao passo que se sustenta um discurso de união, patriotismo e orgulho nacional no início da Copa do Mundo, as instâncias jornalísticas movem-se por um discurso passional de raiva, desprezo e frustração ao final da competição.
