Resumo: | The Jacuí River was the main attraction and access route for the settlement of the Quarta Colônia region, RS. Colonizers and immigrants used navigation to reach the territory now organized as the municipality of Dona Francisca. For various periods in the history of this community, the river had strategic importance. The port built there housed a ferry that transported people and goods to the central region of the then Province of São Pedro do Rio Grande. The surrounding landscapes, the exuberant nature, the memories of all those who passed through the river or lived from those waters, whether for work, transport or fishing, constitute the cultural elements of the city today, built on its banks, nicknamed "Namorada do Jacuí" (Girlfriend of the Jacuí). The territory in which the municipality of Dona Francisca along with eight other municipalities, it is recognized today for the richness of its natural and cultural heritage, officially forming part of the Quarta Colônia Geopark, which is part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network, mainly due to its geology, which preserved paleontological fossils and other cultural treasures. Recently, following a meteorological phenomenon of catastrophic proportions in 2024, it was exposed in the floodplain of the Jacuí River. This site adds important new information to the 32 other archaeological sites already registered in Dona Francisca, highlighting the lack of studies on the presence of indigenous peoples in this territory. The objective of this research is to record the history of this territory, emphasizing the presence of the indigenous communities that lived there and the importance of the Jacuí River in the formation of the municipality, contributing to the appreciation and preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the Dona Francisca territory. To that end, a bibliographic review, documentary research, recording of oral accounts, map making, and photographic inventory will be carried out. The historical research conducted served as a key reference for the design and development of the exhibition layout, executed by the *Projeto Salvaguarda do Patrimônio Arqueológico da Quarta Colônia – Museu de Dona Francisca* (Quarta Colônia Archaeological Heritage Safeguarding Project – Dona Francisca Museum), funded under SEDAC Public Notice No. 31/2024 PNAB RS – Memory and Heritage. The product is the completion of the exhibition design project on the theme of natural and cultural heritage, especially indigenous-archaeological heritage, of Dona Francisca. The exhibition showcases the archaeological remains of the Albino Marzari Site aiming to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about the indigenous peoples. This research is linked to the Area of Concentration and the Research Line is History and Cultural Heritage of the Postgraduate Program in Cultural Heritage from the Federal University of Santa Maria. |

This research is linked to the Area of Concentration and the Research Line is History and Cultural Heritage of the Postgraduate Program in Cultural Heritage from the Federal University of Santa Maria.O Rio Jacuí foi o principal atrativo e rota de acesso para a povoação da região da Quarta Colônia, RS.
