Introduction: Health work has the main function of caring. Actions that go beyond technical procedures and involve constant emotional load to deal with suffering, maintain dignity and deal with situations of negative outcomes. A relationship of physical and psychological well-being is necessary, especially in the hospital environment where they are related to the balance between development and satisfaction in performing functions, when it does not generate complications, tensions and maladjustments that cause physical and mental illness of the worker. Objectives: To analyze the prevalence of depression, anxiety and stress in nursing professionals. Material and methods: For data collection, two instruments were used: one containing the sociodemographic and occupational data and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21). For the statistical analysis of categorical variables, the distributions of absolute and quantitative frequencies, measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion were used. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used for quantitative predictors and t-student for dichotomous. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed with significance level α of 0.05. Results: The study included 99 professionals from the nursing team with a predominant age range of 30 to 49 years (71.7%), married (48.5%) and nursing technicians (73.7%), mostly. Regarding occupational aspects, most work in the inpatient sectors, have only one job and work up to 40 hours a week. In general, professionals had moderate depression score 37 (37.4%), extremely severe anxiety score 34 (34.3%) and normal for stress 30 (30.3%). Both for depression, anxiety and stress, the female gender presented higher averages, being statistically significant. It was found that the correlation between sex and anxiety is weak and positive, corroborated by linear regression. Conclusion: We observed that women are more affected by depression, anxiety and stress due to physical as well as social issues, because in addition to professionals, they are often mothers and home providers. Institutional intervention is necessary to prevent and treat mental health changes in nursing workers, avoiding compromising patient care.
