Resumo: The concept of body image is defined as a multidimensional construct, which involves how the individual acts, feels, imagines and sees his appearance and his own body. Dissatisfaction with self-image in the elderly can be harmful to health, and the idealization of a body pattern can induce harmful behavior. The aim of the study was to analyze the association of body image perception with sociodemographic, health and behavioral aspects. The cross-sectional study was developed from data extraction from the ELSIA Project - Longitudinal Study of Health of the Elderly of Alcobaça, BA, which evaluated 460 elderly people. The elderly participants had their anthropometric measurements measured, and also answered, in the form of an individual interview, a multidimensional questionnaire to assess the perception of body image and the sociodemographic, health and behavioral aspects. Stunkard's scale of silhouettes was used to assess the dependent variable. The prevalence of dissatisfied elderly people was 63.5%, of these 64.7% were dissatisfied with being overweight and 35.3% with thinness. Dissatisfied elderly people had a higher mean weight of 69.43 kg ± 15.03 (p <0.001) and BMI 28.09 kg / m² ± 5.73 (p = 0.001). A significant association was found between body image and the variables number of diseases (p <0.001), number of medications (p = 0.018), functional disability in IADL (p = 0.010) and BMI (p <0.001). In the analysis of the prevalence ratio, in the bivariate analysis it was associated with the perception of body image with the sociodemographic aspects (years of study and family income), health aspects (number of diseases and number of medications) and behavioral aspects (IADL, BMI and activity physics). However, after the adjusted analysis, health (number of diseases) and behavioral aspects (AIVD and BMI) remained associated with the perception of body image. The results of the present study highlight the high prevalence of body image dissatisfaction, being essential interventionist health promotion strategies that enable the elderly to better body selfknowledge, avoiding adoptions of behaviors harmful to health and quality of life.

A insatisfação da autoimagem nos idosos pode ser prejudicial à saúde, sendo que a idealização de um padrão corporal pode induzir a comportamentos nocivos. O objetivo do estudo foi analisar a associação da percepção da imagem corporal com os aspectos sociodemográficos, de saúde e comportamentais. O estudo transversal foi desenvolvido a partir da extração de dados do Projeto ELSIA – Estudo Longitudinal de Saúde do Idoso de Alcobaça, BA, que avaliou 460 idosos. Os idosos participantes tiveram aferidas as medidas antropométricas, e ainda responderam, em forma de entrevista individual, um questionário multidimensional para avaliar a percepção da imagem corporal e os aspectos sociodemográficos, de saúde e comportamentais. Para avaliação da variável dependente foi utilizada a escala de silhuetas de Stunkard. A prevalência de idosos insatisfeitos foi de 63,5%; desses 64,7% apresentaram insatisfação pelo excesso de peso e 35,3% pela magreza. Os idosos insatisfeitos apresentaram maior média de peso, 69,43 kg ± 15,03 (p<0,001) e IMC 28,09 kg/m² ± 5,73 (p=0,001). Foi encontrada associação significativa da imagem corporal com as variáveis número de doenças (p<0,001), número de medicamentos (p=0,018), incapacidade funcional nas AIVD (p=0,010) e IMC (p<0,001). Na análise de razão de prevalência, na análise bivariada foi associada a percepção da imagem corporal com os aspectos sociodemográficos (anos de estudo e renda familiar), aspectos de saúde (número de doenças e número de medicamentos) e comportamentais (AIVD, IMC e atividade física). No entanto, após a análise ajustada, permaneceu associada à percepção da imagem corporal os aspectos de saúde (número de doenças) e comportamentais (AIVD e IMC). Os resultados do presente estudo destacam a alta prevalência de insatisfação da imagem corporal, sendo essenciais estratégias intervencionistas de promoção de saúde que possibilitem aos idosos melhor autoconhecimento corporal, evitando adoções de comportamentos nocivos à saúde e à qualidade de vida.application/pdfhttp://bdtd.uftm.edu.br/retrieve/7028/Dissert%20Jacqueline%20A%20A%20Silva.pdf.jpgporUniversidade Federal do Triângulo MineiroPrograma de Pós-Graduação Stricto Sensu em Atenção à SaúdeUFTMBrasilInstituto de Ciências da Saúde - ICS::Curso de Graduação em Enfermagemhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAutoimagem.Envelhecimento.Imagem corporal.Insatisfação.Saúde do idoso.Aging.Body image.Dissatisfaction.Health of the elderly.Self-image.Saúde ColetivaPercepção da imagem corporal e fatores associados em idososPerception of body image and associated factors in the elderlyinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisreponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações da UFTMinstname:Universidade Federal do Triangulo Mineiro (UFTM)instacron:UFTMCC-LICENSElicense_urllicense_urltext/plain;
