Prevalência de doenças respiratórias em população adulta rural do município de Uberlândia - EPIDORSU - Estudo epidemiológico

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of asthma,Chonic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) in adults living in rural areas in the city of Uberlândia. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional population-based study, with a representative sample of residents of the rural area of Uberlândia, carried out from August / 2018 to December / 2019. It consisted of visits to random households previously drawn, which included all residents adults aged ≥ 18 years, and who agreed to participate in the study. The participants responded to a set of questionnaires validated for Portuguese, namely: American Thoracic Society / Division Lung Diseases, The European Community Respiratory Health Survey II (ECRHS II), Lung Health Study, 2002 and SF-12, Sleepiness Scale of Epworth, NoSAS Score and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). In addition to the main questionnaire, anthropometric measurements, vital signs and pulmonary function tests were collected. RESULTS: Risk prevalence rates for OSA (37.3%), ASTHMA (20.33%) and COPD (8.47%) were observed, in addition to 78% of the interviewed population reported poor sleep quality. We observed that of the 22 patients at risk for OSA, 4 (18.2%) also had ASTHMA and 2 (9.1%) also had COPD. Of the 5 patients, n=3 (60%) also had associated asthma. While 2 (9.1%) had ASTHMA and COPD and OSA. CONCLUSION: O Obstructive respiratory diseases are prevalent, poorly diagnosed and undertreated in the rural population of the municipality of Uberlândia.
