Resumo: The theme of this research is the leisure at a middle-classes club in the city of Uberlândia. The research starts discussing the debate about leisure like a non-daily time linked to individual freedom of choice and consumption. Then we put at issue a literature that advocates leisure as individual preference in face of researches about leisure of the working class, the middle class and the ruling class. The concepts are confronted with empirical analysis of the leisure at the club, based on field observation, documents and the club\'s history, showing that the club provides non-daily time leisure with children, families and through sporting activities, but also it conducts recreational activities to consumption in general and in particular during the parties. The club is a fortified enclave addressed to middle-class; is a privatized space where the leisure activities are controlled. The club has a propaganda that reinforces an image of great leisure business and social events as well as results in club sport and health promoter. The conclusion is that the leisure activities of the middle class express a class division. The practices are oriented by the ideology of non-socioeconomic equalization.

The practices are oriented by the ideology of non-socioeconomic equalization.Esta dissertação tem como tema o lazer de classe média, cujo local escolhido é um clube de classe média da cidade de Uberlândia. A pesquisa parte de um debate sobre o conceito de lazer que autores denominam de um tempo de não-cotidiano, ligado à liberdade individual das escolhas de práticas de lazer, de um lado, e à imposição do consumo nas práticas de lazer na sociedade capitalista de outro. Então questiona-se a bibliografia que defende o lazer como preferência individual a partir de pesquisas sobre o lazer da classe trabalhadora, da classe média e da classe dominante. Os conceitos são confrontados com a análise empírica do lazer no clube, a partir de observação de campo, das publicações e da história do clube, chegando à conclusão de que o clube proporciona um lazer não-cotidiano com as crianças, as famílias e por meio de atividades desportivas, mas também o clube realiza atividades de lazer ligadas ao consumo em geral e nas festas em particular. O clube também funciona como um enclave fortificado para a classe média, espaço privatizado, separado e seguro onde se realizam as atividades de lazer, além do controle das atividades de lazer. Neste sentido o clube possui uma propaganda que reforça uma imagem de grande empresa de lazer e eventos sociais, bem como clube de resultados no esporte e promotor de saúde. A conclusão é que as práticas de lazer da classe média expressam a divisão de classes.
