Investigação de Brachyspira hyodysenteriae e Brachyspira pilosicoli em suínos com diarreia no estado do Espírito Santo

Enteric disorders in pigs are more frequently observed in growing and finishing stages causing economic losses. In Espírito Santo (ES) there is a few research about pathogens that are responsible for enteric diseases in pigs. The objective of this study was to determine the presence of Brachyspira hyodysenteriae and Brachyspira pilosicoli in pigs with clinical signs of diarrhea in the Central-Serrana region of the state of ES by real time polymerase chain reaction technique – qPCR and evaluate epidemiological conditions of the properties. Samples were collected in farms with historic of diarrhea and clinical suspicion of infection with pathogenic Brachyspira ssp. We obtained 30 samples that contain a pool of pig feces with diarrhea, from 30 farms in 10 different counties of ES. B. hyodysenteriae and B. pilosicoli were not detected in any of the 30 properties analyzed (0/30), even with favorable conditions of low biosecurity of swine production farms, indicating that these agents are not important cause of diarrhea in this region. The small size of these farms and the low density of production units in ES, combined with the use of antimicrobials in feed may have interfered in identifying agents investigated.
