Resumo: Introduction: The diagnosis of a chronic disease profoundly affects the concept of life for the individual, who needs to deal with it permanently and progressively. The significant increase in patients with chronic kidney disease represents a serious public health problem in Brazil. Objective: To know the profile of work leave of individuals in Renal Replacement Therapy - Hemodialysis. Methodology: This research is retrospective, descriptive, non-experimental, with a quantitative approach. The study population consisted of adult chronic renal patients, of both genders, on renal replacement therapy. The study was carried out in three institutions that offer Renal Replacement Therapy services, public or affiliated with the Unified Health System (SUS) in the city of Uberlândia. Results: The study included 172 patients, most of whom 115 (67%) were male, 61 (35%) aged between 41 and 50 years, 72 (42%) self-reported color White and 58 (34%) in the level of education Incomplete Elementary School. Conclusion: Most patients undergoing hemodialysis received government benefits as retirees, sick pay and pensioners, having given up working life with an employment relationship. The medical team and the family were the main influencers of these patients to request retirement or illness assistance, and to dedicate themselves fully to the treatment of Renal Replacement Therapy.

O aumento significativo de pacientes com doença renal crônica representa um sério problema de saúde pública no Brasil. Objetivo: Conhecer o perfil de afastamento para o trabalho dos indivíduos em Terapia Renal Substitutiva - Hemodiálise. Metodologia: Esta pesquisa tem caráter retrospectivo, descritivo, não experimental, com abordagem quantitativa. A população do estudo foi constituída por pacientes adultos renais crônicos, de ambos os sexos, em terapia renal substitutiva. O estudo foi realizado em três instituições que ofertam os serviços de Terapia Renal Substitutiva, públicos ou conveniados com o Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) na cidade de Uberlândia. Resultados: Participaram do estudo 172 pacientes, sendo a maioria do sexo masculino 115(67%), 61(35%) na faixa etária de 41 a 50 anos, 72(42%) cor auto referida Branco e 58(34%) no nível de escolaridade Ensino Fundamental Incompleto. Conclusão: Os pacientes que realizavam tratamento hemodialítico, em sua maioria, receberam benefícios do governo na condição de aposentado, auxilio doença e pensionista, tendo abdicado da vida laboral com vínculo empregatício.
