The increase in the generation and di®usion of digital content, principally through the use of the Internet, has made it necessary to use techniques that authenticate and protect the data's origin. Studies carried out in the area of digital watermarking have produced promissory results, both in authentication as well as in the protection of copyright. The development of watermarking techniques for digital images is an area under constant evolution, this becomes clear when taking into consideration the number of applications where these techniques can be used. In general watermarking techniques are developed for one type of application. This work's proposal therefore is the improvement of an algorithm, which already exists, which unifies the watermark insertion in images for the verification or protection of copyright, through the adjustment of some of its parameters. Some related techniques are presented, besides the detailed analysis of the technique to be improved. Various tests are presented giving examples of the proposed techniques.
