This work presents a study on the United States' trade policy towards China during the Donald John Trump administration. It discusses how Sino-American trade conflicts were established and characterized during this period. In this sense, the central argument defended is that, under the Trump administration, there is an unprecedented confrontation in the United States' trade policy towards China, with the outbreak of a trade war between these two countries. However, the change in strategy put into practice by Trump did not provide economic gains for the United States, nor was it even useful in repositioning the country in the international situation. The confrontation, however, had domestic gains with the positioning of China as the enemy. Therefore, in this work, we seek to illustrate the trade war established between the years 2018- 2019. The foundations of this conflict and its possible impacts on the reconfiguration of the international system are described. Therefore, the work is divided into four chapters. In the first, a brief history of North American trade policy is presented. In the second, a theoretical framework is presented on the way in which United States trade policy is formulated. In the third, it is described how anti-China trade ideas were spread by Trump and his team. Finally, in the fourth chapter, the North American explanations for the outbreak of the Sino-American trade war (2018-2019) and its effects are analyzed.
