The aims of this study were to evaluate economic management regimes in rural properties with and without forest regulation and develop a linear programming model to achieve a balanced income distribution between the owners. The study information come from 144 farms with eucalypt plantations into forest outgrower schemes and stands inventory of own areas of forestry companies. Cost data, production, price and outgrower distances up to companies were acquire from forestry companies. These data were used in the thesis in chapters II and III, which the cash flows of the producers and the companies were studied to determine the economical distance and the optimal management regimes to the outgrower schemes. It was also studied the forest regulation with and without the participation of companies' areas. For the last chapter (IV), a case study was prepared with 20 independent properties to evaluation of individually and jointly forest regulation. The economic analysis indicated increased profitability of the owners when they entered into incentive programs for a distance up to 160 km to nearest company. It was observed that 15% of outgrowers in the study showed no economic viability. Considering an increase of 10% in wood price, only 1% of outgrowers would be unviable. For the forest areas regulation, it was observed that the specific linear programming model applied to outgrower individually, resulted in lower regulation cost (8%) than applying a model involving outgrowers and companies' areas (21%). This indicated that the outgrower did not bring benefits to producers, requiring reassessment of costs and revenues to improve the attractiveness of this partnership form. In the proposal for a cooperative regulation between smallholdings, the process provided a regulation cost reduction in 10% when compared to the properties with individual regulation. This proposal also had the advantage of lower properties division to meet the regulation.
