This work aimed to evaluate the physiologic quality of soy bean seeds; to estimate the genetics parameters, the response pattern and the previsibility using different analysis methods for characters of quality seeds and to elaborate an index of combined selection for germination and sanity of soy bean seeds. It was used seeds of cultivars and lineages from the final rehearsals of the Soy bean Improvement Program of the Department of Fitotecnia of the Federal University of Viçosa, conducted in different areas in the State of Minas Gerais, in years 2000/2001 and 2002/2003. In each area, it was used the Randomized Complete Block Design (constituted of cultivar and lineages), with three repetitions. The physiologic quality of the seeds was evaluated by a germination test (in laboratory) and by a test of plant emergency in sand (in greenhouse). The sanitary quality was evaluated by the "Blotter Test". The statistical analyses were accomplished using the GENES program. Among the appraised materials in the year 2000/2001, the seeds of cultivar FT 104, Doko RC, Conquista and the lineages UFV-97 61190916 and UFV-98 CR67 presented germination bigger than 85% in all the environments. In the year 2002/2003, among the materials of medium and semi-late cycle, the lineages UFV-98 267 F10 RC1,3, UFV-98 878565, UFV-98 6011099, UFV-01 606207B, UFV-01 875386B and UFV-99 9331958 presented average percentage of germination bigger than 75%, in all the environments. The materials of late cycle had germination lower than 75%, in all the environments. The lineage UFV-97 612977215 (year 2000/2001, late cycle), the lineages UFV-99 931140, UFV-99 304783, UFV-99 9392009 (year 2002/2003, medium and semi-late cycle) and the lineages UFV-99 651214 and UFV-90 8552042 (year 2002/2003, of late cycle) presented the best response pattern for the seeds physiologic quality, with a larger germination and a smaller environmental variation. The Index of Elimination and Classification provides bigger ease for analysis of the seeds sanity and rank the materials according to its sanitary quality. To rank the soy bean materials for the seeds sanitary quality, the Index of Elimination and Classification eliminated of the analyses the materials that didn't reach the minimum levels requested. The lineages UFV-97 61190916 (year of 2000/2001, late cycle), UFV-98 700739 (year 2002/2003, medium and semi-late cycle), UFV-01 823281B and UFV-01 823278B (year 2002/2003, late cycle) had larger indexes of sanity seeds, with better sanitary quality than the other materials.
