Ephemeroptera (Insecta) do Parque Estadual do Rio Doce, Minas Gerais, Brasil: biodiversidade e distribuição espacial

To increase knowledge of Ephemeroptera from the State of Minas Gerais, a study of nymphs and adults was carried out at the Rio Doce State Park and neighboring areas. Rio Doce State Park is the largest remaining area of the Atlantic Forest biome in the State of Minas Gerais, and is one of the most threatened in the State. Studies of the Ephemeroptera fauna are scarce for the State of Minas Gerais. Based on the collected material, 50 species of Ephemeroptera were identified; seven families and 32 genera were obtained. Baetidae was the most diverse family (19), followed by Leptophlebiidae (13) and Leptohyphidae (12). Fifteen new species were found, seven from Baetidae, one from Leptohyphidae, six from Leptophlebiidae and one from Oligoneuriidae. The genera Homoeoneuria Eaton (Oligoneuriidae), Simothraulopsis Demoulin (Leptophlebiidae), Leptohyphes Eaton and Traverhyphes Molineri (Leptohyphidae), Hexagenia Walsh (Ephemeridae) and Lachlania Hagen (Oligoneuriidae) are registered for the first time for State of Minas Gerais, the first two being registered for the first time in the Southeast of Brazil. Traverhyphes (Traverhyphes) indicator Needham & Murphy is registered for the first time in Brazil. The following species are registered for the first time for the State of Minas Gerais: Hexagenia (Pseudeatonica) albivitta (Walker) (Ephemeridae); Leptohyphes cornutus Allen, Leptohyphes plaumanni Allen, Tricorythodes bullus Allen, Tricorythopsis minimus (Allen) (Leptohyphidae); Farrodes carioca Domínguez, Molineri & Peters, Miroculis (Ommaethus) froehlichi Savage & Peters (Leptophlebiidae) and Campsurus melanocephalus Pereira & Da-Silva (Polymitarcyidae). Some comments regarding the biology of the collected species are also provided. We described two new species, Homoeoneuria sp.n. (Oligoneuriidae) and Thraulodes sp.n. (Leptophlebiidae), both restricted to pristine areas of the park.
