Resumo: | The growing of arable land increasingly requires the development of genotypes that have higher productivity and are able to develop in stress environments. The objectives of this study were to investigate the relationship between variables related to the stress of Al and identify sugarcane genotypes tolerant and sensitive in Al stress. The experiment was conducted with 11 genotypes that were evaluated in two environments, with and without Al stress. The Al stress caused a reduction, by more than half, in the dry plant and shoot dry mass. The axial roots were reduced and the lateral roots were increased in stress condition. The genotypes 2, 9 and 10 produced MTS above average in both environments, while genotypes 4, 5, 7 and 8 were below average. The genotype 2 excelled in the production of lateral roots in both environments. In contrast, genotype 8 reduced about half the CRL under stress. There was a difference among genotypes for Al accumulation in root and shoot, indicating different mechanisms of Al tolerance in genotypes. Under normal conditions the direct selection for ALR and CRA were the largest and the unfavorable direction of the SDW and indirect selection for ALR via MRS also has an unfavorable direction for MPAS. In MRS stress and CLR has a direct effect on favorably on MPAS. Through the discriminant analysis and considering the set of characteristics evaluated, we can group together the genotypes 2, 4 and 11 as tolerant to Al, genotypes 8, 9 and 10 as sensitive to Al and others with inconsistent performance. These groups can be used for future breeding process. |
