This study was developed in the municipality of Ipaba in an area environmental protection of the CENIBRA enterprise, located in the region of the high and medium Rio Doce, at the borders of the Lagoa Silvana that belongs to the system of lakes of the medium Rio Doce, in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The objective of this work was to quantify the stocks of biomass and carbon and also to determine the wood and bark densities of the species with greater representativity in the parameter total volume outside bark. The analyses were based on the continuous forest inventories, carried out during the years 2002 and 2007 and in density determinations obtained by the sampling of selected individuals. The area of study was divided into two sections: Forest 1 and Forest 2. The results of year 2007 for Forest 1 were: biomass stock equal to 73.39 ton ha-1 and carbon stock of 36-70 ton ha-1. The best contribution for the increase of these stocks between years 2002 and 2007 was of the species Xylopia sericea. Forest 2 showed values for biomass stock of 152.35 ton ha-1 and carbon stock of 76.17 ton ha-1, and the species Pseudopiptadenia contorta showed the best contribution for the increase of these stocks between years 2002 and 2007.
