João II de Portugal (1481-1495), com ênfase na construção da sua imagem como Príncipe Perfeito e na forma como a historiografia o apresenta: precursor do Estado Moderno português. Tal imagem se baseia na classificação de suas políticas, identificadas com a centralização e o fortalecimento do poder monárquico. A base documental é formada pelas crônicas de Rui de Pina e Garcia de Resende sobre o período joanino, bem como pelo Livro de Apontamentos de Álvaro Lopes Chaves. Ao entrecruzar a historiografia e as fontes primárias, pretende-se entender as lógicas que presidiram a construção dessa imagem de D. João II e propor uma nova análise das práticas e lógicas políticas do governo joanino, tendo como base o olhar da Nova História Política e o entendimento da Idade Média como uma sociedade corporativa. This portrayal is based on his policies' qualification as supposedly aimed at centralizing and strengthening the monarchical power. The documentary basis comprises Rui de Pina's and Garcia de Resende's chronicles of John II's reign, as well as Álvaro Lopes Chaves' "Livro de Apontamentos". By checking historiography against primary sources, this research purposes to understand the reasoning that presided over the construction of that image and hence to propose a new analysis of the political logic and practices during John II's reign, based on the views of the New Political History and the understanding of the Middle Ages as a corporate society.
