As políticas de assistência estudantil na Universidade Federal de Alfenas: uma avaliação das ações no campus de Varginha entre 2009 e 2015

This descriptive and exploratory study aims to determine how the actions promoted by the Student Assistance Program UNIFAL – MG has impacted the permanence of students considered low income campus Varginha. In order to endorse this study, we sought to contextualize the history of higher education in Brazil, presenting the problems and incentives occurred in the process, the evolution of offers of places of public and private sectors culminating in the expansion and democratization of access higher education access implemented in recent decades. The student assistance is also discussed conceptually, addressing the historical process that led to the institutionalization of the practices of the policy in Federal Institutions of Higher Education, as well as the consolidation of the National Programme of Student Assistance – PNAES, the result of a long process of struggles of social and student movements. The operationalization of this study took place from documentary research, interview Along the Sector Responsible For Student Assistance and Questionnaires Application Along TO Benefiting Students with Student Assistance For Shares offered by UNIFAL - MG to campus Varginha. The results showed that the Student Assistance Program implemented by UNIFAL-MG is fundamental for the permanence of students benefiting from the Varginha campus and although this policy is helping to keep them in university, some points need to be reviewed and improved to meet the demands for the permanence of low-income students.
