Resumo: | Schooling is an essential factor for socioeconomic development and its returns, both monetary and non-monetary, have been widely discussed in the literature. Secondary education, for example, is a mandatory stage of basic education and it is important both for those who go directly to the labor market and for those who wish to pursue higher education. Thus, the objective of the present article is to evaluate the effect of secondary education on income and labor market insertion, as well as health conditions, investigating the main differences between individuals who only have elementary education and those who have finished high school. For that, this text is divided into two articles. In the first one, the objective is to evaluate the effect of secondary education on the insertion in the labor market, from an analysis of the income and the different types of occupation of individuals who have completed high school and those with only elementary education. For that, descriptive analysis and regression analysis are used in order to understand the relation between the level of education and the income. The data refer to the second quarter of 2017 and were taken from the Continuous Household National Sample Survey (Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios Contínua - PNADC). The results indicate that secondary education tends to raise the income of individuals. This increase varies for different ages and for each sex, with women tending to have lower incomes than men. In the second article, the objective is to investigate the differences in health conditions also between individuals with only elementary education and those who have finished high school. This relationship is investigated from a descriptive analysis and a logistic analysis. Data were taken from the National Health Survey (Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde - PNS) conducted in 2013. The results confirm that those with high school have better health conditions than those with only elementary education. |

O ensino médio, por exemplo, é uma etapa obrigatória da educação básica e é importante tanto para quem vai diretamente para o mercado de trabalho quanto para aqueles que pretendem cursar o ensino superior. Dessa forma, o objetivo da presente pesquisa é avaliar o efeito do ensino médio sobre os rendimentos e a inserção no mercado de trabalho, assim como nas condições de saúde investigando as principais diferenças entre indivíduos que possuem apenas o ensino fundamental e aqueles que concluíram o ensino médio. Para tanto, a dissertação foi dividida em dois artigos. No primeiro, o objetivo é avaliar o efeito do ensino médio na inserção no mercado de trabalho, a partir de uma análise dos rendimentos do trabalho e dos diferentes tipos de ocupação de indivíduos que completaram o ensino médio comparativamente àqueles que possuem apenas o ensino fundamental. Para tanto, utiliza-se a análise descritiva e a análise de regressão com o intuito de entender a relação entre o nível de instrução e os rendimentos. Os dados são referentes ao segundo trimestre de 2017 e foram retirados da Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios Contínua (PNADC) do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE). Os resultados indicam que o ensino médio tende a elevar os rendimentos dos indivíduos. Essa elevação varia para diferentes idades e para cada um dos sexos, com as mulheres tendendo a possuir rendimentos menores em comparação aos rendimentos dos homens. No segundo artigo, o objetivo é investigar as diferenças nas condições de saúde também entre indivíduos que possuem apenas o ensino fundamental e aqueles que concluíram o ensino médio. Essa relação é investigada a partir de uma análise descritiva e uma análise de regressão logística. Os dados foram retirados da Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde (PNS) realizada em 2013.
