Resumo: Pesticides consist of a wide class of environmental contaminants that can cause acute and chronic health effects to individuals exposed to them. These effects can range from simple skin or eye irritation to more serious ones, such as affecting the nervous and reproductive systems and causing cancer. Dementias, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), have attracted the attention of researchers in recent decades due to their high incidence worldwide. The etiology of AD is still not well understood; however, the role of the environment as a risk factor has gained importance. More worrying is the evidence that prenatal and postnatal exposures to environmental factors predispose to the onset of dementia later in life. In several studies, pesticides have been involved in AD due to their ability to increase the Beta-amyloid peptide and the phosphorylation of the Tau protein (P-Tau), causing an increase in the amount of senile/amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) characteristic of AD. This review aims to prospectively verify whether literature data can be used to inform society and, specifically, health professionals, about preventive care and treatment of people and animals that are subjected to contact with glyphosate, including in food.

Esses efeitos podem variar desde uma simples irritação da pele ou dos olhos até aqueles mais graves, como afetar os sistemas nervoso e reprodutor e causar câncer. As demências, incluindo a doença de Alzheimer (DA), têm chamado a atenção de pesquisadores nas últimas décadas devido à sua alta incidência em todo o mundo. A etiologia da DA ainda não é bem conhecida; entretanto, o papel do meio ambiente como um fator de risco ganhou importância. Mais preocupante é a evidência de que exposições pré e pós-natais a fatores ambientais predispõem ao aparecimento de demências no decorrer da vida. Em diversos estudos os pesticidas têm sido envolvidos na DA devido à sua capacidade de aumentar o peptídeo Beta-amiloide e a fosforilação da proteína Tau (P-Tau), causando elevação na quantidade de placas senis/amiloides e emaranhados neurofibrilares (NFTs) característicos de DA. Esta revisão tem como objetivo verificar de modo prospectivo se os dados da literatura podem ser utilizados para informar à sociedade e, especificamente aos profissionais da saúde, sobre os cuidados de prevenção e tratamento de pessoas e animais que estão submetidos ao contato com o glifosato, inclusive na alimentação.application/pdfporUniversidade Federal de AlfenasPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Ciências AmbientaisUNIFAL-MGBrasilInstituto de Ciências da Naturezainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/DemênciasDoença de AlzheimerGlifosatoPesticidasCIENCIAS BIOLOGICASO uso indiscriminado do pesticida glifosato poderia aumentar a prevalência da doença de Alzheimer?info:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion4542263603111139210600600-3439178843068202161reponame:Repositório Institucional da Universidade Federal de Alfenas - RiUnifalinstname:Universidade Federal de Alfenas (UNIFAL)instacron:UNIFALTrevisan, KaynaraCC-LICENSElicense_urllicense_urltext/plain;
