Resumo: | Introduction: Human aging is considered a complex process, which leads to several physiological and systemic changes that favor the occurrence of falls and chronic-degenerative disorders. The fall, in particular, has been considered as one of the most disabling and worrying geriatric syndromes, and, despite being widely studied, it still requires investigation with regard to the biological aspects related to it. In this sense, studies using biomarkers (quantifiable biological parameters), can help to better understand the intrinsic factors related to falls. Among the biomarkers, the telomere length stands out, because it is closely related to gene expression, chromosomal stability and vulnerability to the development of chronic diseases. Objective: To analyze the association between telomere length and the occurrence of falls in the elderly. Method: Sectional study carried out with 448 elderly people. Data collection was carried out in two stages, the first being a personal interview and the second, blood collection. The blood sample was used for the relative quantification of the size of the telomeres by means of qPCR in real time. The dependent variable of the study was the occurrence of a fall in the year prior to the interview. In the data analysis, descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression were used. Results: The prevalence of the occurrence of at least one fall in the year prior to the interview was 27.90%. Older people with shorter telomere length (OR=1.97; 95%CI=1.01-3.89), female (OR=2.26; 95%CI=1.32-3.86), aged 80 years or more (OR=1.88; 95%CI=1.01-3.56), dependent for basic activities of daily living (OR=2.56; 95%CI=1.38-4.72), and using polypharmacy (OR=1.87; 95%CI=1.20-2.92) were more likely to fall. Conclusions: Shorter telomere length was associated with the occurrence of falls, which demonstrates the relationship of genetic biomarkers in reducing the individual's intrinsic capacity and reinforces the relevance of preventive measures against falls. |

A queda, em específico, tem sido considerada como um dos eventos adversos mais incapacitantes e preocupantes, dado que, apesar de amplamente estudada, ainda requer investigação no que diz respeito aos aspectos biológicos a ela relacionados. Nesse sentido, estudos utilizando parâmetros biológicos quantificáveis, denominados biomarcadores, podem ajudar a compreender melhor os fatores intrínsecos relacionados às quedas. Dentre os biomarcadores, destaca-se o comprimento do telômero, pelo fato de estar intimamente relacionado com a expressão genética, estabilidade cromossômica e vulnerabilidade ao desenvolvimento de doenças crônicas. Objetivo: Analisar a associação entre o comprimento do telômero e a ocorrência de quedas em idosos. Método: Estudo seccional realizado com 448 idosos. Os dados foram coletados em duas etapas: a primeira através de entrevista pessoal e a segunda por coleta de sangue. A amostra sanguínea foi utilizada para a quantificação relativa do tamanho dos telômeros por meio da qPCR em tempo real. A variável dependente do estudo foi a ocorrência de queda no ano anterior à entrevista. Na análise dos dados, utilizou-se estatística descritiva e regressão logística múltipla. Resultados: A prevalência de ocorrência de pelo menos uma queda no ano anterior à entrevista foi de 27,90%. Idosos com menor comprimento do telômero (OR=1,97; IC95%=1,01- 3,89), do sexo feminino (OR=2,26; IC95%=1,32-3,86), com idade de 80 anos ou mais (OR=1,88; IC95%=1,01-3,56), dependentes para atividades básicas de vida diária (OR=2,56; IC95%=1,38-4,72) e em uso de polifarmácia (OR=1,87; IC95%=1,20-2,92) apresentaram maiores chances de ocorrência de queda. Conclusão: O menor comprimento dos telômeros apresentou associação com a ocorrência de quedas. Esse resultado demonstra a relação de biomarcadores genéticos na redução da capacidade intrínseca do indivíduo e reforça a relevância de medidas preventivas para quedas.application/pdfporUniversidade Federal de AlfenasPrograma de Pós-Graduação em EnfermagemUNIFAL-MGBrasilEscola de Enfermageminfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/IdosoAcidentes por QuedasTelômeroBiomarcadoresSaúde do IdosoEnfermagem GeriátricaCIENCIAS DA SAUDE::ENFERMAGEMAssociação entre o comprimento do telômero e a ocorrência de quedas em idososinfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion-3204580530536360493600600-7702826533010964327reponame:Repositório Institucional da Universidade Federal de Alfenas - RiUnifalinstname:Universidade Federal de Alfenas (UNIFAL)instacron:UNIFALDzivielevski, Alessandra Mara OliveiraLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
