Resumo: The ability of the soil to promote socioeconomic and environmental sustainability is linked to its ability to provide nutrients and support for the biosphere and terrestrial ecosystems. This ability depends on the balance between the physical, chemical and biological conditioning of the soil under the influence of climatic, geomorphological, anthropic and chronological factors. Therefore, soil deterioration processes can be evaluated based on the aid of environmental indicators. Soil loss is an effective indicator for assessing the health and functioning of the terrestrial ecosystem, since erosion is one of the major factors causing soil degradation in the world and is a social, economic and environmental challenge to be overcome. Therefore, estimating the potential for soil losses and sediment production in the different operations of the Laje Stream Hydrographic Sub-basin, which flows into the Furnas Hydroelectric Power Plant reservoir, south of Minas Gerais, is an essential task for the planning, Management and protection of soil and water resources, as well as predicting whether natural resources are being used above the carrying capacity. To estimate the potential erosion, the Potential Erosion Method was used, incorporating its algorithms in the Erosion and Flow Intensity software, which provided greater agility and reliability in the measurement of results. The model was applied in Geographic Information System with the aid of geoprocessing, and the main factors described in the form of digital maps and information plans. The digital maps were derived from the Digital Elevation Model, from chemical and physical soil analysis, field data and information obtained from the specialized literature. The coefficient suggesting the mean erosion potential was calculated as 0.37, or deterioration category IV, indicating weak degree of erosion. Potential mean soil losses were equivalent to those obtained by the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation in the same subbasin, with a mean of 1.52 Mg ha-¹ year-¹ and a total potential loss of soil of 668.26 Mg ha-¹ year-¹. The total potential loss in this research was 649.31 Mg year-¹ for a 100 year return period. The discharge of sediment that reached the defluvium was 60 Mg year-¹, that is, 9.3% of the total potential losses reached the depositional areas or watercourses. The mean of potential soil losses in this model was 1.46 Mg ha-¹ year-¹. The results are considered satisfactory and support new studies with the application of the Potential Erosion Method in Brazil.

The results are considered satisfactory and support new studies with the application of the Potential Erosion Method in Brazil.A aptidão do solo em promover a sustentabilidade socioeconômica e ambiental está ligada à sua capacidade em fornecer nutrientes e suporte para a biosfera. A perda de solo é um indicador eficaz para avaliar a saúde e funcionamento do ecossistema terrestre, visto que a erosão é um dos principais fatores que causam degradação dos solos no mundo e é um desafio social, econômico e ambiental a ser superado. Portanto, estimar o potencial de perdas de solo e a produção de sedimentos nos diferentes manejos da Sub-bacia Hidrográfica do Córrego da Laje, que deságua no reservatório da Usina Hidrelétrica de Furnas, sul de Minas Gerais, é uma tarefa essencial para o planejamento, gestão e proteção do solo e dos recursos hídricos, bem como prever se os recursos naturais estão sendo utilizados acima da capacidade de suporte. Para estimar a erosão potencial foi utilizado o Método de Erosão Potencial, incorporando seus algoritmos no programa Intensidade de Erosão e Escoamento que proporcionou maior agilidade e confiabilidade na aferição dos resultados. O modelo foi aplicado em Sistema de Informação Geográfica com auxílio de geoprocessamento, e os principais fatores descritos na forma de mapas digitais e planos de informações. Os mapas digitais derivaram do Modelo Digital de Elevação, de análises química e física do solo, de dados de campo e de informações obtidas na literatura especializada. O coeficiente que sugere o potencial médio da erosão foi calculado em 0,37, ou categoria IV de deterioração, que indica processos de erosão laminar de grau fraco. Os resultados das perdas médias potenciais de solo foram equivalentes aos obtidos pela Equação Universal de Perdas de Solo Revisada, na mesma sub-bacia, com média de 1,52 Mg ha-¹ ano-¹ e perda total potencial de solo de 668,26 Mg ha-¹ ano-¹. A perda total potencial nessa pesquisa foi de 649,31 Mg ano-¹ para um período de retorno de 100 anos. A descarga de sedimentos que atinge o deflúvio foi de 60 Mg ano-¹, ou seja, 9,3% das perdas totais potenciais alcançaram as áreas deposicionais ou cursos d’água. A média de perdas potenciais de solo neste modelo foi de 1,46 Mg ha-¹ ano-¹. Os resultados são considerados satisfatórios e amparam novos estudos com a aplicação do Método de Erosão Potencial no Brasil.application/pdfporUniversidade Federal de AlfenasPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Ciências AmbientaisUNIFAL-MGBrasilInstituto de Ciências da Naturezainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/Solo - ConservaçãoErosão HídricaLatossolosGeoprocessamentoGEOCIENCIAS::GEOLOGIAModelagem da erosão hídrica pelo método de erosão potencial em uma sub-bacia hidrográfica de referência no Sul de Minas Geraisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion4542263603111139210600600710257368597248386reponame:Repositório Institucional da Universidade Federal de Alfenas - RiUnifalinstname:Universidade Federal de Alfenas (UNIFAL)instacron:UNIFALTavares, André SilvaLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
