Violência e desenvolvimento: Um estudo acerca do impacto da violência no desenvolvimento econômico - o caso de Feira de Santana em 2008

This study it had as objective estimate the impact of the violence, in particular of the homicides, in the performance of productive activities in 2008 in the city of Feira de Santana, State of the Bahia, where was registered 295 crimes of this order as reports published in the Tribune Feirense. With basis of the intended objectives, opted to the case study, adopting as instruments the bibliographical research, documentary, surveys and the use of the counting technique. It was also used the technique of calculating years of life lost or damaged to quantify the years of lost production due to homicides and loss of productive years of the killers, decurrent of the performance in illicit activity. The data of the study had been acquired next to the Periodical Tribuna Feirense and correspond the 87 news articles of police matrix published in the period of 1 of January the 31 of December of 2008 and confirmed by police authority. It was also used the Tábua de Esperança de Vida of the IBGE-2007 for referring taking of data to the life expectancy of men and women in the State of the Bahia. The survey was conducted with questionnaires along with business leaders and leaders of organizations of religious, beyond syndical matrix and of the municipal public power. The impact of the violence owed homicides if verifies in all the searched productive sectors, varying the dimension of in agreement impact the area. The loss of productive years of the victims of the homicides totalized 876 years for women and 12,457, 5 years for men. The loss of productive years of the homicides for performance in the criminal activity totalized 9,600 years. The total impact estimated of loss due homicides is of R$ 128.077.182 that it corresponds about 2,92% of the GDP of the projected city for 2009. The presented numbers and the described consequences by the interviewed ones to the certainty do not correspond to the totality of the impact of the violence for the local society. However, it shows to its dimension and the necessity of the urgent adoption of remedial policies of the conditions that potentiates the violence, the example of the poverty, the lack of chance of job for the youngest e of immediate actions of combat impunity and the traffic of drugs.
