The present research aimed to know the perception of nurses and pharmacists regarding the use and effectiveness of medicinal plants and phytomedicines in primary health care (PHC) in small municipalities in the 10th Regional Health Region of Paraná. It was a descriptive study of a quantitative nature, developed in the PHC of small municipalities in the 10th RS of Paraná, accounting for 24 municipalities. The study population consisted of nurses and pharmacists working in the Basic Health Units of the public network of the municipalities that agreed to participate in the research. As an instrument for data collection, a semi-structured self-administered questionnaire was used, containing open and closed questions to obtain personal data, information relevant to the subject studied. Data were tabulated and analyzed for the most frequent response category using the Chi Square test for Adherence. The results showed that a total of 54 professionals were interviewed, most of them female (n=46, 85.2%), nurses (n=36, 66.7%). It was possible to verify that 28 people (52.9%) had knowledge on the subject of medicinal plants and phytotherapics during graduation. 84.9%). As for the possibility of prescription, it was found that the minority prescribes medicinal plants (n=4, 7.5%) and herbal medicines (n=6, 11.3%) When evaluating the knowledge of the 12 medicinal plants that make up the List National Institute of Essential Medicines (RENAME), the frequency distribution was homogeneous (p=0.174), Finally, it was asked if the respondent considers the use of medicinal plants effective, and the majority considered it in the affirmative (n=50, 92.6 %). It is expected that this research will serve as a subsidy for new studies and for the development and implementation of actions and public policies with the purpose of disseminating knowledge on the subject.
