Resumo: This research, registered in Formative Processes and Practices in Education line, had the general objective of identifying and analyzing the social representation of adolescent students enrolled at Tannel Abbud, a Public High School located in the municipality of Presidente Prudente (SP), about the role of media, specially of a specific social media in particular, Facebook, in the construction of their concept of citzenship. In order to achieve this goal, the following specific objectives were set: identifying the frequency and nature of use of social media by adolescents in their daily lives; identifying the frequency and nature of use of social medias in the classrooms by the surveyed adolescents; identifying and analyzing the representations of adolescents on social medias, specifically Facebook, and identifying and analyzing the representations of adolescents on the concept of citzenship. The investigation took a qualitative approach with a descriptive-explanatory design and it will take the character of a stocktaking study, known as Survey. Data analysis was performed on the content analysis, aiming to contribute to the understanding of this recent phenomenon: the presence of social media in adolescents life and their social interferences...A presente pesquisa, inscrita na linha de Práticas e Processos Formativos em Educação teve por objetivo geral identificar e analisar a representação social de adolescentes matriculados na Escola Estadual Tannel Abbud, do ensino médio do município de Presidente Prudente (SP), sobre a função da mídia, em especial da mídia social (Facebook) na construção do conceito de cidadania que eles possuem. Para atingir tal objetivo, foram traçados os seguintes objetivos específicos: identificar a frequência e a natureza de uso de mídias sociais pelos adolescentes em seu cotidiano; identificar a frequência e a natureza de uso de mídias sociais nas salas de aula dos adolescentes pesquisados; identificar e analisar a representação dos adolescentes sobre mídias sociais, especificamente o Facebook e identificar e analisar a representação dos adolescentes sobre o conceito de cidadania. A investigação assumiu uma abordagem qualitativa, com delineamento descritivo-explicativo e assumirá o caráter de estudo de levantamento (Survey). A análise dos dados foi realizada mediante análise de conteúdo, visando contribuir para a compreensão deste fenômeno recente que é a presença das mídias sociais na vida dos adolescentes e suas interferências sociais. Os resultados mostraram que o Facebook se destaca atualmente na rotina dos jovens, apresentando potencialidades para o desenvolvimento de atividades escolares, pois são ambientes atrativos, onde os jovens ficam uma boa parte do tempo para interagir, colaborar e desenvolver competências.
