Resumo: This present dissertation, research line on Educational Institution: Management and Organization, has been raised because of some concerns related to the reading practices in English as a Second Language within the Curriculum proposal of São Paulo state. We were challenged in investigating the ways that document not only presents but also articulates the reading representations with a heterogeneous school. It is justified, then, the importance of reflecting whether or not that curriculum considers the school and the students needs concerning the reading practices. In order to have it done, the qualitative approach sustains this work, which involves a detailed bibliographic analysis, allowing us to refer to different sources of scientific knowledge and theories, and desk research, in which the curriculum itself will be used, as well. Furthermore, we intend to understand the reading representations and practices based on Roger Chartier studies, so we can analyze how they are articulated in that curriculum. Also, it will hopefully lead to create real actions on the reading field.

Fomos, então, desafiados a investigar de que forma o documento oficial do estado concebe as representações de leitura e as articulam com uma escola heterogênea e diversa. Justifica-se, portanto, a necessidade de refletirmos se o currículo em questão atende às necessidades reais da escola e do aluno no que tange às práticas de leitura. Para tal, a abordagem qualitativa sustenta metodologicamente este trabalho, por meio da análise bibliográfica, que nos permite a consulta a diferentes fontes de conhecimento teórico-científico, bem como a pesquisa documental, na qual o próprio currículo do estado nos servirá de base para investigação. Nesse sentido, propomo-nos a compreender as representações de leitura e suas práticas a partir dos estudos de Roger Chartier para que, na sequência, possamos analisar em que sentidos tais representações se inserem e se articulam neste currículo.
