Introduction: The research covers a study on the environmental impact assessment on highways more specifically on SP 613 Arlindo Bettio Highway in Teodoro Sampaio-SP. Despite the recognized progress and development that highways can bring to the regions where they are present, it is important to consider and evaluate the interference that they can cause on the ecosystem. Objective: To discuss the environmental impacts on highways, especially on SP-613 Highway that crosses the “Morro do Diabo” State Park in Teodoro Sampaio-SP. Method: The method consisted of systematic literature mapping and textual analysis of solid waste and environmental impacts in electronic databases. This research was approved by CEP under no. 4201. Results: The survey of publications reached a total of 551 references for English-language articles and 105 for nationals. After using exclusion criteria, 200 articles in English language and 29 national articles were kept at the end. After the textual analysis there were clear differences about the thematic approaches, where the English language articles refer to the waste management processes and the national ones in reuse. The impact of the highways as waste propagation environments is highlighted due to transportation and the presence of landfills influencing the environmental impacts. Conclusion: The Systematic Mapping of Literature allowed to establish a situational diagnosis about the main publications on the subject pointing the actions of prevention, mitigation and compensation of environmental damages that can affect the environmental and socioeconomic balance. We found a diversity of international publications in the area. However, it was also possible to verify that national publications, especially in the Pontal do Paranapanema - Morro do Diabo State Park region, need to be optimized. More research and other delimitations of the field of study are needed and may contribute to the direction of new understandings of the subject
