Resumo: | There are many factors that affect the healing process. While malnutrition disfavors this process, ascorbic acid benefits it. Objective: To evaluate the action of ascorbic acid on cutaneous wound healing in malnourished rats compared with eutrophic ones. Material and methods: We used 96 Wistar rats, adult, male, divided into four groups: A - 24 eutrophic rats, which received only water and feed; B - 24 eutrophic rats receiving vitamin C by gavage (340mg / kg 12/12h); C - 24 malnourished rats that received only water and feed; D - 24 malnourished rats receiving vitamin C by gavage (340mg/kg 12/12h). Malnutrition was conducted by providing to the animals half of the daily ration for 30 days. There were two incisions, one sutured (healing by 1st intention) and the other not (healing by 2nd intention). The rats were killed on the 3rd (M3), 7th (M7) and 14th (M14) day of the experiment. Results: There were statistical difference (p> 0.05) between the groups for the parameters: granulation in the wound edge for 1st and 2nd intention; extent of injuries in M7 for 1st intention and in M3 by 2nd intention; reepithelization in M7 for 1st intention; fibrin-leukocyte crust in M14 for 1st intention; amount of neovascularization, macrophage, fibroblasts and collagen fibers concentration for 1st and 2nd intention. Conclusion: The use of vitamin C in malnourished rats and in eutrophic ones increases fibroblast proliferation and collagen deposition in the tissue which helps to improve healing both by 1st and 2nd intention. |

Made available in DSpace on 2016-07-18T17:53:11Z (GMT).
