Resumo: The functions performed by the micronutrient boron (B) have a direct impact on the productive potential of plants. Therefore, its proper management through fertilization is a viable and sustainable technology to enhance the productivity of soybean cropping systems in sandy soils. This research project investigated the effect of different B application methods on the yield components of soybean cultivars grown in sandy soil. In a greenhouse setting, three B application methods — no application (control), soil fertilization, and foliar spraying — were tested across five soybean cultivars, totaling fifteen treatments arranged in a completely randomized design with four replications. The plants were grown in pots filled with sandy soil characterized by low available B content. At the end of the crop cycle, the yield components of the soybean plants were evaluated, as well as the B concentrations in the grains and soil. The data were subjected to normality tests and analysis of variance, and when significant, means were compared using Tukey’s test (p < 0.05). In this study, it was observed that B application, following the recommendation of Embrapa Cerrado, did not result in the expected improvements in the evaluated parameters — neither through soil application nor foliar spraying — suggesting a possible toxicity, with few significant differences between treatments. The variation among cultivars may be attributed to their genetic characteristics. The cultivar 64HO114 IPRO showed the highest productivity among the cultivars under the control treatment. We conclude that the response to B application methods varies among cultivars. Further studies are needed to better understand the interaction between application methods and newly developed soybean cultivars.

Further studies are needed to better understand the interaction between application methods and newly developed soybean cultivars.As funções desempenhadas pelo micronutriente boro (B) impactam diretamente o potencial produtivo das plantas, logo, seu manejo adequado via adubação é uma tecnologia viável e sustentável para potencializar a produtividade dos sistemas de cultivo de soja em solos arenosos. O projeto de pesquisa investigou o efeito dos métodos de aplicação do micronutriente B na resposta dos componentes produtivos de cultivares de soja cultivados em solo arenoso. Em casa de vegetação, três métodos de aplicação de B – sem aplicação, nomeadamente de controle, adubação via solo e pulverização foliar, foram testados em cinco cultivares de soja. Dessa forma, totalizando quinze tratamentos distribuídos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições. As plantas foram cultivadas em vasos preenchidos com solo de característica arenosa e com baixos teores disponíveis de B. No final do ciclo, os componentes de produção das plantas de soja foram avaliados, bem como os teores disponíveis de B nos grãos e no solo. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos a testes de normalidade e análise de variância e, quando significativos, as médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey (p < 0,05). É notável no presente trabalho que a aplicação de Boro utilizada seguindo a recomendação da Embrapa Cerrado não obteve um aumento esperado em suas avaliações propostas nem na aplicação via solo nem na aplicação foliar apresentando uma possível toxidez, com poucas diferenças significativas entre os tratamentos e as diferenças entre as cultivares podendo ser levado em consideração a característica de cada uma. A cultivar 64ho114ipro apresentou maior produtividade entre as cultivares para o tratamento controle. Concluímos que a resposta aos métodos de aplicação de B varia entre as cultivares.
