Introduction: The treatment of bacterial vaginosis (BV) with probiotics and vaginal acidifiers has been studied as an alternative to the use of antimicrobials. Objective: to evaluate the treatment response of patients diagnosed with BV with intravaginal gel containing lactic acid. Methodology: The collection of clinical information was carried out in 66 patients from January 2021 to February 2022. Amsel's criteria were adopted for the diagnosis of BV, through the characteristic of the discharge, the pH of the vaginal fluid, the release of fetid odor by the Wiff test and by the presence of clue cells in the fresh microscopic examination. For the treatment of patients confirmed with BV, lactic acid was indicated, applied vaginally, for 7 nights. Results: Among the 66 patients with suspected BV, 50 (83.3%) were symptomatic and of these, 42 (84%) confirmed the diagnosis according to Amsel's criteria. Foul odor and patients who had already undergone previous treatment were associated with BV (p<0.005). Of the 29 patients treated with lactic acid, 24 (82.7%) showed improvement in symptoms, however 13 (44.8%) reported return of symptoms after 30 days. Conclusions: The use of lactic acid proved to be a viable and easy-to-apply alternative for cases of BV, and further studies should be encouraged to obtain more comparative data with conventional recommendations.
