The first decade of the 21st century was characterized as the golden period of international trade. Due to the strong expansion in the volume of commercial exchanges carried out between the various participants in the global flow, this period saw growth of 137% in the flow of trade, going from 6.4 trillion dollars in transactions in the year 2000 to almost 19 trillion dollars in 2014. In this new context of globalization, there was also a strengthening of Brazilian participation, at which time the country adopted a new positioning of its external commercial relations by establishing competitive strategies condensed into three industrial and foreign trade policy plans. This thesis, therefore, proposes to study the new Brazilian positioning as a global player and trader through the evaluation of the set of competitive strategies structured by the Industrial, Technological and Foreign Trade Policy (PITCE), the Productive Development Policy (PDP) and the Plano Brasil Maior (PBM), a position that was initially structured at the end of the 20th century, strengthened throughout the terms of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and continued in the first term of the Dilma Rousseff Government. For its preparation, this thesis was divided into five major chapters, the first contextualizing Brazilian Foreign Policy since independence, the second presenting a contextual analysis of the external competitive environment, the third describing the internal environment scenario, the fourth describing the Brazilian competitive strategies condensed into three industrial and foreign trade policies, and finally, the fifth chapter which will present an analysis of the results obtained through the study of the country's national positioning as a global player and trader, as well as the Brazilian competitive strategies adopted among years 2003 and 2014.
